Question

How do I get on the Ambrosia boards so I can be your friend there and thus be added to your list of friends here. Thanks. Justinpwilsonadvocate 03:51, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

The Ambrosia boards. However, just because you register there doesn't mean you can just add yourself to the friends list; I've known most of the people on that list for at least a couple of years (in the case of Mazca and Guapo, its closer to seven or eight), and I've met squibix (staying at his place on two different occasions). EVula 16:00, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
So exclusive!!! I, for one, would be more than happy to have you on my friends list. In fact, I think I'll create a friends list and put you on it. Justinpwilsonadvocate 18:47, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Briley Parkway

Regarding this article, can the alternate names for the highway be italicized rather than bolded? I have a feeling that in the future, someone might actually try to make a redirect with those names of Woodmont Blvd and Thompson Lane anyway. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, italics don't quite make sense either; I'd say let's leave it alone. If someone does try to make a redirect, they would probably get deleted anyway; while I know that Thompson and Woodmont are significant in Nashville, neither road is notable enough to warrant additional attention from Wikipedia, and the redirects might be deleted. Perhaps toss some quotes around the alternate names the first time they are mentioned? *shrug* EVula 15:57, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

MK Infoboxes

BTW, adding captions to the images in the character infoboxes does nothing, since that's not a valid template parameter. Just though I'd let you know to avoid too much unnecessary work =O).Virogtheconq 19:45, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

No, it *does* do some good; without a caption, the HTML generated by Wikipedia has nothing in the "alt" area, which is a bad thing from an accessibility standpoint. EVula 19:50, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
I stand corrected. Thanks for pointing that out.Virogtheconq 20:27, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Always happy to help. :) EVula 20:43, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Olive Branch

I can see you have rebuffed my efforts at extending an olive branch. Justinpwilsonadvocate 02:38, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Uh, okay. No clue what you're talking about, but I don't particularly care, either. Explain yourself or don't; neither much matters to me. EVula 04:07, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I am referring to my efforts to become your friend and begin a new era of collegiality between us. But I guess you "don't particularly care". Justinpwilsonadvocate 04:11, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I fail to see what I did to rebuff anything. The fact that you have (seemingly randomly) dropped me a line suggests (to me, at least) that I actively did something, which I have no knowledge of; feel free to provide an example of said action.
My apathy stems from my ignorance of the situation. Rectify that, and I might give a rat's ass. EVula 04:16, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I just want us to be friends. Justinpwilsonadvocate 04:17, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Alrighty, I'm going to state this once:

Leave me the fuck alone.

I've asked repeatedly in our most recent exchange for you to clarify what it is you're talking about, and you've failed to do so repeatedly (either willfully or accidently, it doesn't matter). Just leave me alone. If you keep harassing me, I'll see what I can do within the Wikipedia system to ensure that you stop. This is not a threat, and it shouldn't be interpreted as one; it is merely a request that you leave me alone.

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I'm not out to "get you" or anything, and I haven't done anything (as far as I know, and you've failed to clarify your claim) to rebuke your attempts at friendship; indeed, as far as I'm concerned, I've been very cordial:

  • You thanked me for backing you up in an edit dispute, which I politely turned down (as I didn't feel it was warranted).
  • I didn't consider your addition of yourself to my Friends list vandalism (I have done so to other attempts in the past). This may not mean much to you, but this distinction is quite significant to me.
  • When you were stalking me, I calmly requested that you stopped, rather than attack you over it.
  • I've stated specifically that "I'm not opposed to being friends" with you (emphasis mine).
  • You asked how you could get on my friends list, and I answered in an honest manner (it should be noted that, to the best of my knowledge, you've yet to follow-through with that advice).

I'm not sure what it is that set you off this time, but I'm officially tired of this back and forth. Stop pestering me.

Repeated attempts at communication on my talk page in regards to any personal issues will (most likely) be met with silence and indifference. Communication about content/edit disputes should be relegated to the talk page of the disputed article, not my talk page; edits of such a nature made on my talk page will be summarily reverted.

Honestly and most sincerely,
EVula 04:57, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
(cross-posted on User talk:Justinpwilsonadvocate [1] and User talk:EVula)

I will gladly leave you alone, other than keeping an eye on your cruft-ish contributions to the wiki. Frankly, i sincerely think much of this video game / sci-fi trivia is pretty non-notable. However, it is difficult to countenance the vulgarity of your message to me. Really, Mr. cool computer guy / MTSU dude, civility is a core value here at wikipedia. I was genuinely trying to encourage collegiality between us with my last few messages. Instead of accepting this olive branch, you chose to tell me to leave you the fuck alone. Somehow it seems that this kind of harsh language and unfriendly sentiment seems out of place in a collaborative environment such as wikipedia. Just a thought. Justinpwilsonadvocate 05:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
If you have a problem with the quality of my contributions... well, that's nice. You are welcome to submit an AfD for the articles you don't believe should be on the Wikipedia. Reverting my edits for the sake of argument will be treated as vandalism, and tracking my edits with the express purpose of challenging them will be considered harassment and will be treated (and acted upon) as such.
Your opinion of the topics I have chosen to devote my energies to on Wikipedia in absolutely no conceivable way matters to anyone but yourself; I would advise that you keep such an opinion out of your thoughts when editing.
I feel that I have been very civil, given the level of pestering you've reached. If you don't, so be it. Feel free to go through whatever Wikipedia process you need to for me to be formally reprimanded (I, obviously, will argue in such a debate, but will willingly accept any punishment/reprimand meted out). Keep in mind that there is no Wikipedia policy stating that I be friends with you; I'm well within my right to "rebuke" any attempt at friendship, although I still don't know what set you off on this latest tirade (the initial "Olive Branch" post).
I'm tired of your attempts at monopolizing my time by constantly posting to my talk page. I asked you to clarify what you were talking about, and you failed to. Hence, I felt justified in escalating the level of discussion with the "leave me the fuck alone" comment, which you failed to fully comprehend, as evidenced by the fact you're still posting here.
This is our last communication about the personal issues between the two of us. Period. I don't care about being your friend anymore (reminder: you still have me listed on your profile page as a friend. I'll leave it to you whether to remove it or not, as I'm entirely apathetic about it). Do not post additional comments about this topic, as they will be ignored and removed as vandalism (communication in regards to Wikipedia content and contributions, though I would prefer being restricted the article in question, will not be considered vandalism). EVula 16:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Would like your opinion on talk:War Machine

As you are clearly quite knowledgeable about comic book matters, I would appreciate your comment on a discussion I have initiated talk page War Machine. Essentially, there are arguments for renaming this article "War Machine (Comic Book)" and creating a disambiguation page, but there are also obvious arguments against this course of action. I thought you might have some helpful input. Thanks and have a nice night. Say hello to Hope Hines for me. Justinpwilsonadvocate 01:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Hah! The "You have a message" note popped up just as I was clicking on that link from my watchlist. Excellent timing. :) (Also, I've never met Hope Hines, hate to disappoint) EVula 01:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Pretty funny. And you really should meet Hope Hines, or at least catch him on the 10 o' clock news. He has been, for me, a highlight of living in Nashville. Justinpwilsonadvocate 01:39, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Ahoy!

I remember using your website as a reference for Escape Velocity a number of years back, and so when I saw a comment in the "Articles for Deletion" page attributed to "EVula", I had to wonder if it was the EVula. Just thought I'd thank you from back then for the helpful tips! --Columba livia 17:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Indeed I am the one and only. Glad that I helped, oh so long ago. :) EVula 17:48, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Ronto Group

I am posting this here because it does not directly relate to the article or whether it should be kept but to your comments regarding the sufficiency of my keep vote. It is unclear to me what is wrong with my keep vote on the ronto group deletion debate. It seems to say as much as 90% of keep votes I see in deletion debates across wikipedia, so it is unclear why I should be required to say more for my opinion to be taken into an account to an extent a keep vote by an experienced user ordinarily would be. As for my reference to "debate", what I meant is that the AFD should be allowed to work through the ordinary process and this article should not be speedy deleted as its alleged non-notability is now in dispute. Thanks. Justinpwilsonadvocate 12:52, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

There's nothing wrong with your vote. I was saying that, if you wanted it to be kept, you needed to actually provide some evidence of notability. I see that you've made some edits to the article, though I don't have the time to actually investigate them right now. You are correct in that, now that the article has at least some sources, it shouldn't be speedily deleted, and I doubt any admin would fail to take that into consideration. EVula 15:11, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

MK Userbox

I posted something on the WikiProject Mortal Kombat about the userbox. I was thinking of replacing yours with the mandatory message like this:

Per the German userbox solution, {{User WPMK}} was moved to {{User:SilentRage/Userboxes/WPMK}}

Along with the suggestions I posted at the WP talk page. Your thoughts? SilentRage 19:55, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I have responded. Note, WikiProject declarations are relatively immune to the GUS, so this isn't a particularly pressing issue. EVula 20:43, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I like it well enough, but you didn't include a source when you uploaded it. I fixed that, but you really should include such information on your own.
Also, please sign you posts by putting ~~~~ after what you type. It makes it easier to track what people are saying (less of an issue in a two-person back-and-forth, but still, it's a good habit to get into). EVula 14:29, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

re: Your revert on Parthenon (Nashville)

I'm sorry, I don't understand how linking to Centennial Park (Nashville) directly instead of to the DAB page for Centennial Park can be considered linkspam. Please explain or undo/change your revert. --Brian G 16:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Gah! Sorry, I somehow reverted your edit when I was attempting to remove some spam in the External links section. Many apologies, and I have corrected my mistake. Again, I'm sorry about that. EVula 17:10, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Ah.... I see what happened now. No problem. If I thought about it a little harder I could have figured it out and fixed it for you. --Brian G 17:27, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

re your accusation on Sareena

Please wikipedia:assume good faith. I did not "blindly revert" your edit (which implies that I reverted this edit because you made it or to mess with you). If you actually look, you will see that I included an edit summary explaining why my previous, more descriptive its proper location. This was a good faith mistake. Please do not assume that I am doing wrong. Justinpwilsonadvocate 15:04, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

*sigh* You reverted directly to my previous edit (where I indented the hatnote).[2] I can accept skipping over my edit where I condensed the note (heh, since it is what you disagreed with), so that's all well and good, but you undid my moving of the infobox/opening sentence.[3] I then had to do it again [4] (which would have been a much bigger pain in the ass if I'd done more than move a single line).
This isn't an accusation; it was a blind revert. However, I think you're overreacting to the comment; I'm not saying you did it to be a dick or anything. As far as I know, you just didn't see it. A good faith mistake? I have absolutely no problem believing that. I put that in the summary to call attention to the fact that you should be more mindful of previous edits.
Just... calm down. Yeesh. EVula 15:36, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
In that case, I apologize for overreacting. I guess I'm just overly cautious now that a misintepreted action on my part could be grounds for you "see[ing] what [you] can do within the Wikipedia system to ensure that [I] stop". Justinpwilsonadvocate 15:43, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Good job leaving "harassing me" out of the context. This conversation is now closed as per my notes above. EVula 15:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for leaving that out. I just want to be careful of not being accused of harassing you and I think it is completely legitimate for me to seek guidance from you as to what you consider to be harassment. Justinpwilsonadvocate 19:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that legend just works so well... simple, small, and perfect. :) Right now, I'm cooking up some major CSS changes to my userpage. I'll probably keep an eye on what you've done just to get a feel for what is and isn't possible (and for general inspiration). I'll drop you a line if I get it running. Working within the confines of the wiki system is proving to be an interesting (yet fun) challenge. EVula 22:52, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for your edits to the hatnotes I have been working on. This is the first time I have done this sort of bread and butter wikipedia work and I find that I enjoy it. I feel like your edits have taught me quite a bit about formatting and how to write a good hatnote. I appreciate it. Justinpwilsonadvocate 21:02, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Glad to help. A good point of reference: WP:HAT. I thought I had a good feel for them, but I picked up a couple of things from there.
"Bread and butter work" can be a pain in the ass (very easily, actually), but I have to admit to a certain satisfaction in getting through a particularly tedious bit of working and seeing it look nice and clean. EVula 21:09, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Copyvio

Glad to be of service. I personally find copyvios offensive and when I do new pages patrolling, notice that many articles by new users with large blocks of unformatted text are cut and paste jobs that a simply google search would reveal. Many editors ignore such posts, only tagging nonsense/empty/bios with speedy tags but don't realize what a constant barrage of plagiarized text we are subject to. A few notes: If you do blank and tag an article with {{copyvio}}, be sure to warn the user with {{nothanks-drm}} (a template I created for this purpose). If, as in in the French Affair, you are able to revert to a prior version, tag the author who added the material's talk page with {{nothanks}} with the article name in a section header. Also, in the interests of informing other editors of where the copyvio came from and which user added it, it's a good idea in the edit summary to state something like "Reverted edits by ____ adding copyvio text, to last by ____; copyvio from http://www.example.com." Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 19:44, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Awesome, I'll do that. As I use the random article link more, I'm sure I'll happen across more copyvio pages, so I'll keep all this in mind. Thanks! EVula 19:47, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Member: Lil'Layzie-One is kontakting you

Hey EVula, just popped in to ask a simple question or two, do you think the Arena's article is starting to shappen up? the other thing was, i hope doing that article was a good thing, instead of a waste of our time, get back @ me on my page, for one reason i might forget to check here lol :) Lil'Layzie-One

getting back at you

yeah i realized theres much to do on the Arena's, its a lot of work getting these articles up, i'm surprized at how much every ones done here so far, with all the MK articles, i'm almost at a breaking point at the arena's, some of them i have never seen or heard of, such as the facility & skull, i should post something about them, if anyone else has heard of them.

yeah i'll start adding the timelines, i just kinda forgot that last time, so sorry about that.

Kombat Crag & The Ice Falls

i'm just wondering, what is wrong with the two arena's, what is needed, let me know & i can do it, i got the game of where they came from, i checked the info that was posted with it, but nothing there says what is needed, so i'm asking you sence your the one who tagged them, sorry not trying to be an asshole here, just trying to get some info on it, please get back to me. Lil'Layzie-One 21:04, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Lil'Layzie-One

Well, I didn't flag those two sections; Jeff Silvers did.[5][6]
Now, that said, the problem with those two sections is that they both feature an impossibly long and excessively detailed description, that doesn't address the actual characteristics of the arena from a real world sense.
There are several arena mentions that you can use as examples of what a good entry is like. Goro's Lair, Living Forest, and Nexus Arena all comment on the levels in a way that makes it very clear they aren't real, citing changes between games and other important information.
Above all, remember that we're writing an encylopedia, not a game guide. EVula 21:33, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Lrrr image

You recently restored an unsourced image of Lrrr [7]. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this. --WillMak050389 17:09, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

{response}
The problem is that there is no source where the image came from, if the image came from another website we need the website, if the image was ripped from a dvd we need to know that. I could rip it from a dvd if that is needed, because I'm not sure if Pazuzu413 is still on Wikipedia. This is why the image still needs a source. I hope this helped. --WillMak050389 17:14, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Periods in captions

Please stop indiscriminately removing periods from captions. Ideally, most captions should consist of complete sentences and should have periods. Please read over Wikipedia:Captions. Rather than removing periods, it would be much more helpful if you would rewrite captions to be complete sentences. In the John Seigenthaler, Sr. article, for example, all of the captions were complete sentences. By removing the periods from all of them, you not only broke the standard convention, but also the rules of English grammar. Please review all of the captions you have changed and correct the ones that were edited incorrectly. Thank you. Kaldari 17:31, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

To quote Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Captions:
If the caption is a single sentence or a sentence fragment, it does not get a period at the end. If the caption contains more than one sentence, then each sentence should get a period at the end. (emphasis mine)
To quote Wikipedia:Captions#Complete sentences:
Sentence or not, watch the stops: if the caption is a single sentence or a sentence fragment, it does not get a period at the end. (emphasis mine)
I have reviewed my edits to the Seigenthaler article, and have found none of them in error. Thank you for attempting to correct what you saw as incorrect behavior, though (that sounds smarmy, I know, but it actually is an honest thank you). EVula 17:43, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
It looks like that sentence was added to Wikipedia:Captions less than a month ago by Jasoncatlett (without discussion). I apologize for incorrectly correcting you, however, the convention prior to last month has always been to use periods at the end of complete sentences in captions, regardless of the number of sentences. Thus I imagine there are several thousand articles currently in violation of the guidelines. I would suggest holding off on further caption edits until this can be discussed on the Captions talk page. Kaldari 18:49, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
It may not have been on Wikipedia:Captions for very long, but its been on Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Captions for a lot longer than a month. I did up my Pet Wiki peeves back in June, and referenced the same page then that I do now. After doing some research, the bit about periods was introduced to the MoS back in January [8]. It was met with absolutely no resistance (though, admittedly, I have no idea if there was a discussion or not; a very brief search turned up nothing either way).
I'm not particularly inclined to stop my period decimation activities (given that your argument seems to hinge on this being a brand-spanking new rule, which it is not), but I'll try to restrain my zeal a little bit. ;) EVula 19:25, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough. Kaldari 22:41, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Greetings!

Hi. I have the Dune (novel) page on my watchlist and just noticed your recent clean-up change and thought, "Hey, that user name looks familiar. I wonder if...?!"

A few years back when I got my first G4 and switched to OS X, I downloaded and played Escape Velocity for a while. Your website was a great resource! A very belated THANK YOU!

(I eventually played through most of the storylines and moved on to other things, didn't keep up with the game. What's it like now?)

SandChigger 02:45, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Wow... this is the third time I've been recognized since I've been editing Wikipedia. I wonder if I can present this as evidence of notability... Scratch that. The last thing my ego needs is for me to have my own Wikipedia article. ;)
Thanks for the kind words. I'm so glad the site (which has been woefully neglected by yours truly) was useful. As much time as I've pumped into evula.com, I'd be downright pissed if somebody didn't like it. :)
As for the EV series, it has grown by leaps and bounds. EV Nova is the latest game in the series, and is a hundred times more immersive (and complex) than the original Escape Velocity. It is even available for Windows (which would have been heresy back in the mid-90s). EVula 04:38, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
My bad. EV Nova was the game I played, not an older version! SandChigger 05:15, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

Your Lair

Ahhhh.... the hours I spent trying to get the alien cruiser. Great website you had back then in the good ol' days! Yandman 12:55, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

*blush* People are coming out of the woodwork... thanks! :) EVula 18:33, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Asking for your assistance in something

Hey dude, I know you have put a lot of seriousness into your MK edits, that's why I'm asking you and RobWill80 to discuss a topic I have bought up on the Project Talk Page. The discussion can be found here. Any input from you would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, The Haunted Angel 13:10, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

SW Collabaration....

Hello just dropping in to let you know that I'm organizing a huge Star Wars collabaration, if you want just go to this discussion page..... Cheers, --Sadow (talk | contr.) 19:51, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

MK8?

Hi. I thought that you may want to know about this - someone has made another fake MK8 article. I haven't put an article up for deletion before, but I think I've done this one correctly. RobWill80 14:19, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Everything looks good to me. Thanks for the heads up; I made sure to mention the previous MK8 AfD, meaning that this might be speedily deleted. EVula 14:56, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

MK:A fatalities

Jeff Gerstmann's comment on the MK:A fatalities was made on the 9/14/2006 edition of Gamespot's On The Spot, which i'm not sure how to accurately source, since the shows don't have their own individual links. Any advice? JT706 22:33, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Hrm, that's a tough one, and I don't know the answer off the top of my head. Look around WP:CITE to see if there is something there about it. It'd be great if one of the MK sites saw the same episode and reported on it, then you could just quote the website. :) EVula 23:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Of course, the minute after I hit "save", I found what you need. {{Cite video}}. EVula 23:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Don't you think you are so powerfull

Look can't you understand english silly person? The top of the talk page says don't bite the newcomers and you bite them. Well stop because you are very unfair. Just chill out dude the armageddon talk page isn't an official article or something it is just an informal discussion, so stop erasing my messages and let us all enjoy the discussion. I want to be friends with you guys. And something last. How can i join the project? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Armageddon Fan (talkcontribs) .

...so, yeah, I'd appreciate it if you only yelled at me for things I've actually done. Thanks.
For the record, the top of the talk page says "This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Mortal Kombat: Armageddon article." You were asking gaming-guide questions that were unrelated to the actual article. While I may not have removed your comments, I stand by my fellow editors' actions. Like they said (in their edit summaries; check the History), "this isn't a forum." EVula 15:12, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
If anything, that should've been directed at me. I did try and explain myself in the edit summary, as I didn't know what else to do. Sorry, EVula. RobWill80 15:53, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
The same goes for me, I've been removing this guy's comment's wherever I see them. I wouldn't say I'm 'biting the newcomers', but if you were observant enough to notice that, you must have also noticed the bit that mentions that this is not a forum (even though right now I'm talking to someone else on EVula's talk page =P), and even though me and RobWill keep removing your comments and leaving a summery why we are doing it, you persist in adding more. We are not 'biting' you, but we will continue to remove all irrelevant discussions that you continue to make, we have explained time after time that this isn't a forum. It is an informal discussion as you say, but the talk page is there for discussion article information, not asking questions about the game. There are plenty of forum's elsewhere on the web for that, try MK Online for example, that'd be your best bet. Again, I apologize if I am coming off harsh, but please take notice of the banners at the top of talk pages, and do not persist in re-adding new stuff... it's much easier for me to remove your comment's then it is for you to make them. Thanks. The Haunted Angel 12:31, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Project sharks

Welcome to the project! Since you specialise in WP:MOS I think it would be very good if you could look at a few pages and report back to the project talk page in what way the shark pages most often break the MoS rules, if your interest include grammar and english it is VERY welcome indeed, please have a look at e.g. whale shark and its talk page where we are trying to get it to GA status and have some english comments, and then really all other pages. No matter what all help is very welcome!! Stefan 00:16, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Sure thing! I'm not sure what my free time looks like this weekend, but I'd be happy to take a look at the article. EVula 02:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

Well i must ask you here

Because you erase my question in the armageddon article i want to ask you some questions.

1. Will stage weapons return in armageddon? i mean not character default weapons but weapons that you pick up from stages

2. will liu kang be a zombie or human?

3.any news about the arenas? Because deception has more

4. Will hara kiri moves return? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.16.212.246 (talk • contribs) .

If you can't be bothered to actually read my response (I'm assuming that you're Armageddon Fan from the tone and grammar), I can't be bothered to answer your questions. EVula 16:44, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Welcoming myself... (testing a welcome template)

Thank you for your recent contributions to one of Wikipedia's Mortal Kombat articles. Given the interest you've expressed by your edits, have you considered joining the Mortal Kombat WikiProject? It's a group dedicated to improving the overall quality of all Mortal Kombat articles. Here's some project-specific information for you:

If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the MK project talk page, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! EVula 17:51, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Yay, it works. I love it when something works the very first time out of the gate. EVula 17:52, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Mortal Kombat Trilogy

Hi. I perfectly know that wikipedia is not a gaming guide. My purpose was not to help players by giving cheats, but I wanted to point out the odd fact that some cheats mysteriously remain unknown although the game is now very old, and this fact, I think, can be found in an encyclopedia. It's one of the things that make this game special, so I thought I would talk about it. Filouk

The edit in question: [9]
Well, I have to admit to jumping to a conclusion a bit; I saw the codes and made an assumption. However, in looking over it again, it still contains unsourced speculation ("Another possibility is that..."), which is grounds for its removal in and of itself. I'm also unsure of whether it really warrants a mention in the article... Ask on the article's talk page. Perhaps someone else feels strongly that the content should be in there (albeit in a modified form). EVula 16:10, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
And what about : "Another possibility is that it was simply intended as a joke and was never intended to unlock any characters to begin with." ? I didn't write that, and it has never been removed from the article. But the speculation about Hidden Portal's missing kode is really of minor importance, I can remove it if you wish. What is important is to talk about the fact that some kodes were never released : it's a very rare fact, because usually every code of any game is revealed short after the game's release. By the way, I am creating a special FAQ in GameFaqs about those never published kombat kodes, and I perfectly know the difference of content between GameFaqs and Wikipedia. If you wish, when writing in the article, I can just vaguely mention the fact that some kodes were "forgotten", without telling what the kodes are : that way, I won't be accused of regarding Wikipedia "as a gaming guide". Anyway, I won't restore what I wrote until I have your approbation, on Buzda's "talk page", why I had been "censored", but for now I haven't got any answer. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Filouk (talkcontribs) .
Thanks for pointing that out. I've removed the speculation that you mentioned.
As for the rest... er, I'm at a loss as to what I should/can respond to. I have no problem if you note that not all the codes were explained, as long as it doesn't have any speculation (and the codes themselves are rather unimportant). EVula 18:17, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Italics and Emphasis

Someone has merged two topics from the MoS:

Can you weigh in on the utility of the merge. I see italics as a subset of emphasis, italics is used for emphasis, but is not synonymous. Bold is used for emphasis as are exclamation points. What do you think? I can't revert the change, I did it twice already. I think major changes to MoS should have consensus. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 23:00, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

New project

I have an idea I'd like to discuss with you: Even though there are users who do their best to keep wikipedia a reliable source, it has zero credibility when quoted in forums or researches since the information is fan-submitted (no matter how perfect the article is people are always gonna say that). So, my idea is to create (with your help since I barely know how to create and edit pages) a new project: Wikipedia Certificates. Basically, what we'd do is check that the information in the article is correct, edit it if it's not and leave a logo that says "certified article" or something like that. I got this idea after you edited the Mortal Kombat: Devastation page 897465135 times in order to keep it reliable and I thought "what the heck, this can be done with every article". People could join the project and check the article of their interest. What do you think? It would be good against vandalism and it would give Wikipedia more credibility. Wesborland 14:57, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Not a bad idea, but way beyond my abilities. I'd suggest poking around the Village Pump to see if there's a place to inquire about that. EVula 15:18, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I already created the project, you can check it out and tell me what you think. I'll start working on the logo and my very first page to certify will be Mortal Kombat: Devastation, lol. Of course this project won't work properly until I have enough editors.Wesborland 17:34, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, I think you need to draw up guidelines and specifically state what it is you're trying to do first; a logo won't inspire editors, whereas a clear goal will. Be sure to check out the WikiProject Council to see if there are any resources there that you might be able to use. EVula 18:08, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Talk page

Please don't edit my talk page for no reason. I thought I had a message. :( ---SilentRAGE! 13:33, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, it wasn't for "no reason"; I was updating the link to Kitana (Mortal Kombat), as I'd just moved the article and was trying to avoid any redirects. Sorry for any confusion. EVula 15:52, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Why is it necessary to remove redirects? ---SilentRAGE! 12:41, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Kitana is a disambig page, not a redirect. See WP:DISAMBIG for more info. EVula 15:23, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

*bows* Thank you very much, sir. I have to admit to a bit of "I hope I hope I hope" as I was making the barnstar. ;-) EVula 04:47, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Jayne Picture

hi Evula, I agree with the edit about Jayne - but I think Adam Baldwin's picture must be kept for his Bio (it was the only link I saw at the time). Do you agree? Stellatomailing 17:11, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, then there needs to be two different pictures. Wikipedia has plenty of space, so upload away! ;) EVula 17:14, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

For what it's worth, I appreciate your help with the vandal-fighting. :) Could I also please ask that you set a watch on Elsie Ivancich Dunin? It seems to have been targeted by the same group. :/ I've also been collating some info at User_talk:Englishrose#Vandals which you may find of interest. Thanks, and sorry for the hassle! --Elonka 06:21, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Heh, not a problem, always happy to help. I can't even remember what led me to your article in the first place... I've already removed a malformed AfD on the article, and have added it to my (overflowing) watchlist. EVula 13:36, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
If you'd like, I can supply references: St. Louis Post Dispatch, NPR, Slashdot. If you need others, just ask.  :) --Elonka 22:38, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello.

Thanks for your appreciation on some of my contributions as well as inviting me to contribute to the MK project page. I thought I signed up not too long ago on its talk page, but maybe I should have done that on the main article's page. Buzda 03:41, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, sure enough. I knew there had to be some specific reason why I thought you were already a member. :) EVula 03:54, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the Seigenthaler article. I forgot about that :) Kaldari 16:27, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Films

I had a little discussion with you a while back about the {{Film}} tag on character talk pages (the discussion was on Talk:Indiana Jones#WikiProject Films tag). Just so you know, we re-evaluated our scope and we now include film characters also. Thanks, Cbrown1023 19:52, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, excellent, thanks for the update on this. Should I add the tag to the Mortal Kombat characters who appeared in the MK films? EVula 20:02, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
As long as that is about a film or characters from a film, they can be tagged. Cbrown1023 22:42, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Alrighty. I've tagged all appropriate MK character articles with the {{film}} tag. Glad to help out. EVula 14:36, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Re:Please stop

The tags are getting removed if they relate to the article from the books, comics, etc... (anything outside the movies) It is is just that AWB does not distinguish between articles that had the tag and it was just removed and articles that never had the tag. I just finished those articles, so you will not have to worry about AWB reverting those changes. Cbrown1023 15:55, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Groovy. EVula 15:56, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Actually, a lot of good came from this; a lot of those articles didn't have {{StarWarsProject}} on them, so I've been stalking your edits and adding it where it is missing. Thanks for the indirect help. ;) EVula 15:57, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

I give up

Thanks for ruining the Lion King pages. Go ahead it fuck it up some more. 24.14.120.92 05:41, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm assuming that by both "ruining" and "fuck it up" you mean "bring it in-line with Wikipedia policies and guidelines", albeit in a highly creative and round-about manner. I'm further assuming that you're talking about some of my recent edits ([10] [11] [12] [13] [14]).
Under those two assumptions, I'm curious about your overly-atagonistic response. *shrug* EVula 15:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Mortal Kombat: Devastation

I noticed you're a pretty dedicated editor for this particular film article... you want to tag-team on this one, see what we can put together to make the article genuine? I cleaned up the structure a bit based on my experience with upcoming film articles, but we still need to develop the content, especially project history. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 03:44, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely! I have about zilch experience with upcoming films; I gathered what little information I could largely in response to the deluge of crap that was being thrown into the article. Assistance from someone who actually knows what the hell they are doing is more than welcome. :) EVula 04:21, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Mortal Kombat: Devastation

If I may quote you:

"I'd like to point out that, at one point, the article was actually fairly well sourced, and had links to older rumors that helped smooth the transition between conflicting information. However, Wesborland removed it [15]. If someone else would like to restore the information, feel free; he and I have gone back and forth enough times in this article that I don't want to revert him anymore, regardless of the quality. EVula 14:25, 13 October 2006 (UTC)"

It wasn't my intention to vandalize the article when I removed those sources. I just thought they were no longer valid since they were outdated and contradicted by the newer ones. When I saw you didn't revert my edit I figured you agreed with me, but if you don't, please revert me. I'm really not trying to continue the edit war here, I'm just trying to make this article as reliable as possible.

By the way, have you seen the current state of the article? Someone removed the information about the plot and now it's in a certain state of disorganization, what do you think? Wesborland 16:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I didn't mean to say that I thought you were vandalizing. I disagreed with you, but coming right off our edit war, I didn't feel like disagreeing with you anymore. :)
I haven't actually paid the article much attention lately; I've shifted my attentions elsewhere. I'll probably swing back to it at some point. EVula 16:37, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Just wanted to stop by and thank you for your help with my template problems.I'm still a little new at templates. SOADLuver 19:11, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem. The particular issue with your template is that almost all userboxes are being phased out of the template namespace; basically, if the userbox displays an opinion, it goes to userspace (as opposed to absolutely neutral templates, such as {{user en}}). Probably wouldn't be a bad idea for you to read up on WP:GUS for more information about it.
If you have any other template questions, feel free to ask me. I may not be the most knowledgeable user in the world, but I'll do what I can to help. :-) EVula 19:14, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll remember this, and I'll read WP:GUS right away.again extreme thanks SOADLuver 19:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Re: userbox change

I wasn't talking about the placement of the names. I understand that, and didn't change it. I was talking about having two seperate links. One to Mortal Kombat, and one to the WikiProject. And thank-you very much for your civility on the matter. :) ---SilentRAGE! 21:49, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Oops. I guess I did change the words around. I just noticed that now. But it is supposed to be in that order, like you said. But still, I was refering to the two links, when I edited it. ---SilentRAGE! 22:08, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Groovy, looks like we're on the same page now. Yay! :-) EVula 22:56, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Thanks!

Most welcomed. Note that what I stated there is mostly my personal opinion, with some thoughts about what others may consider correct or not. Thus, you may not agree in some points, or you may find later that in your future RFA that all my points are void. Hopefully, others will take their time to review you as well, although I doubt it as there is a big backlog and very few users working there. Good luck! -- ReyBrujo 01:49, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I was beginning to get a bit concerned; four days with no feedback, I figured maybe I'd been too verbose in my responses...
As for your advice, I've read up enough on various RfA standards to know that it'll be almost impossible for me to meet everything for everyone; personal opinions about what I should do are perfectly fine. Even if I don't pass an RfA, I figure that the worst that can happen is that I'll be a better editor. Oh darn. :-) EVula 01:52, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Announcement: It's an administrator!

EVula, thanks for your support on my request for adminship.

The final outcome was a robust 62/1/1, so I am now an administrator. If you ever have any questions about my actions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks again, Chris Griswold
Hah! That's a great tag.
Anyway, no need to thank me for my support; it was your actions that made my support so, so easy to give. I look forward to working with you on other articles, too (maybe as co-admins; I'm hoping to run for a spot in a few months!). EVula 21:56, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Re. A review request

Hello EVula. In fact, I was already planning to collaborate with your editor's review either later tonight or tomorrow. I saw your funny comment yesterday following my baby remark on User talk:ChrisGriswold. I immediately recognized your username but could not recall from where. I firstly thought that it could be from a recent RfA, but only after spending some time searching for your non-existent RfA I realized that it was from the editors review page. So I decided that I should participate in your review anytime soon. I'll go have dinner now and I'll gladly provide you with some feedback when I return. :-) Best regards.--Húsönd 21:22, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Man, I've got the world's best timing... thanks in advance. EVula 21:28, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
I noticed your speedy delete stance on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vibrational Theory. However, there is no speedy deletion criterium that stipulates that original research should be speedied. I thought that I should tell you this because on your RfA there'll be a chance that users may get the notion that you are confused with the SD criteria. Best regards.--Húsönd 23:24, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Well... poop. Thanks for the heads up. EVula 01:59, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

MP stubs

Thanks for your support. They're certainly not very good at present, but I'm hoping in the long term that we can have stubs for all MPs (well, from the Long Parliament on, say) and that people with the specialized local history to fill in the bios will do so as they can. (There are some frighteningly systematic people working on Parliamentary election results and so on.) Anyway, I mostly dropped by because your humorous example of the legislator-for-an-hour reminded me of a real incident involving two (relative) nonentities, Lord Charles and Rev. Lord Frederick Townshend, younger sons of the 1st Marquess Townshend. The former had just been elected MP for Great Yarmouth, and he and his elder brother (the rector of Stiffkey) took a coach together from Norfolk to London. At the end of the journey, Rev. Lord Frederick got out, hit a post boy, offered to fight the spectators, and wandered away. Inside the coach, Lord Charles had been shot through the head. Lord Frederick claimed his brother had committed suicide and that he had also attempted to do so, but failed; the coroner's jury failed to determine whom the shooter had been, and Lord Frederick was committed for a madman. Much more memorable, I daresay, than anything either could have done in law or religion. Choess 05:44, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

...wow. I completely agree with you about it being memorable... that's just too funny. :-)
Hopefully the editor who is submitting the articles for deletion will wake up and realize that his little corner of the world isn't the only corner in the world. I'd help more, but there's very little I could do; aside from not being particularly interested in them, I'm on the wrong side of the pond. I'll just keep voting for their existence instead... EVula 05:49, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. TheSonofSerenity 07:03, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

AFDs and "vanity"

Regarding AFDs, just a friendly note to point out that the use of "vanity" is now discouraged. Instead please use "apparent Conflict of interest" per WP:COI. Cheers, Jpe|ob 08:15, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

So noted. Thanks! EVula 16:31, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

My RFA!

EVula, thank you so much for your support for my RfA. I passed with a vote tally of 61/0/1. Also, thanks for keeping the tally up-to-date when others forgot and coming to my support on my one Neutral vote :-) I am honored that the consensus was to allow me the added privilege of the admin mop. I appreciate your support and complimentary words on my RFA! --plange 21:40, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
My pleasure. Like I said, I didn't know you weren't already an admin until your RfA; you'd always behaved like one, so I had absolutely no reservations about whether you were the sort of person who deserved a mop. Maybe now people will stop calling you a "he"...
The fact that you're a fellow browncoat is just icing on the cake. ;-) EVula 21:51, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

for fixing my AfD close mistake... By the way, how would I avoid that in the future? What is the correct template?--Isotope23 19:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

No worries. I honestly have no clue what the template is; I just went back to an old AfD, ripped the bottom off, and put it on the page. :-) EVula 19:40, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Ah, I was just doing that when you beat me to it...--Isotope23 19:41, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

John Wayne (rapper)

Hmm, seems policy just recently changed. [16] I guess Jimbo removed that 48 hours thing about a week ago. I guess I didn't notice the change until you mentioned it. I guess it can be speedied, but it is on WP:CP so it will be deleted anyways. T REXspeak 00:44, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Okay, that actually makes me feel better. :-) I'm getting a lot more involved in the various XfD stuff, and so far my biggest/only stumbling blocks have been speedy deletion things. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't mis-reading the policy. EVula 03:12, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Administrator requirements

Thanks for the advice. :-) Nightscream 11:02, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem, happy to help. EVula 13:34, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Umm

[17] Once again, everything I did has been within wikipedia guidelines. What is illegitimate about me keeping an eye on your edits, as I have noticed that they contain a pattern of behavior with which I disagree and believe to not be in the best interest of wikipedia (eg discussing your personal experiences with video games on talk pages)? Thanks. HTH. Justinpwilsonadvocate 17:59, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

No Wikipedia guideline was broken, which is why I didn't warn you. I merely requested that you not stalk my edits with the express purpose of opposing me, which (while not breaking any guidelines) is considered (by me) to be obnoxious and childish. It was a request, that is all, and you're welcome to ignore it (which apparently you will). EVula 18:03, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
What was obnoxious and childish was your unwillingness to bury the hatchet when I attempted to end our conflcit last summer. Justinpwilsonadvocate 19:55, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Stop talking to me. Seriously, just stop. EVula 20:09, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

TestTemplatesNotice

Hi. I saw you putting the {{TestTemplatesNotice}} template in a few places, and I would think that it's value is questionable, and it also takes up a lot of room. I would think it would be better for it to show up only in Category:User warning templates, as that's the centralized place for all warning templates. Wonder what you think. You can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:48, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Hmm, I was just going through {{TestTemplates}} and tagging everything there. Personally, I like the TestTemplatesNotice as I'm lazy and can just copy and past the code with the subst: already in place. :-) In all seriousness, though, I like having a standardized layout (for lack of a better term) for all the various warnings. A lot of new users who are just starting to use warnings against errant editors might not know to subst templates (I didn't when I was newb), so I think any service in that manner outweighs its size. EVula 03:57, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Right. But that ugly box is kind of ... uhm... ugly. I'd like it more at Category:User warning templates. But OK, I won't insist morre on that. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:33, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, honestly, there's very, very little reason for anyone to go to the category for instructions on how to properly use a template. If a better method is found, I'd be all for it; I'm not married to TestTemplatesNotice, its just the best option at the moment. EVula 05:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Jabba the Hutt

Thanks for your support re: Leia captured before or after Luke. I have no idea what this person is thinking! Urania3 12:08, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, that's just strange. Maybe he has some bootleg or something. :-) EVula 15:34, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Jedi trials

Hello! I think you are a good editor and i proposed you as a candidate for adminship. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/EVula. Voice your opinion and let us know if you are willing to accept! Canderous Ordo 20:24, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

!
I just rolled out of bed from taking a nap (I hate being sick) and this is what I come to. Hot diggity damn, I feel better already! :-) EVula 20:58, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
What exactly do I need to do? In poking around, I think that the page technically didn't get made "right" (can't be more specific than that, as I've never submitted an RfA, so I don't know the right way). Should I try to fix it, or should you? EVula 21:04, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Your RfA

Sure. It wouldn't go unnoticed by me anyway. :-) Good luck with it, I'll participate right away. By the way, I must recommend that you don't tell other users about it, for such action can be deemed as canvass by some editors. Your notice to me, however, is acceptable coz it's more like a friendly notice, as I participated in your editor review. Regards.--Húsönd 23:36, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I left messages with you and ReyBrujo, only because you two responded to my review. I'm not planning on canvassing anywhere else (though I am mentioning it on the MK WikiProject page, as its my rationale for temporarily backing out of/postponing something I proposed).
As always, thanks for the advice. EVula 23:45, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Hello! I have asked an optional question on your RfA. I may well decide one way or another anyway but your answer would be great! (aeropagitica) 23:49, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Question answered. I'm actually surprised that isn't one of the default questions... EVula 00:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
