Evolved virtual creatures is a work by Karl Sims.

He famously used evolutionary algorithms to create body morphologies and control systems for creatures in a simulated dynamical environment. His work is an important early (and still quite impressive) example of evolutionary robotics.

A course project done by Kenrick E. Drew, Andrew S. Forsberg, and Paton J. Lewis at Brown University in 1995.

A course project done by Jiayuan Meng and Jiajun Zhu at University of Virginia in 2005.
3. Other important related work has been done by Jordan Pollack's team at Brandeis University. Like Sims, they used a graph generation system to encode body morphologies of their robots, and evolutionary algorithms to evolve them, but unlike Sims, they actually "printed"/built some of the robots.
