Engineering Council UK
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Engineering Council UK (ECUK) is recognised by the British Government as the national representative body of the engineering profession in the United Kingdom, working in partnership with other engineering institutions, and is a "designated authority", under the implementing regulations for Directive 89148/EEC. This directive is implemented for engineering in the UK by Statutory Instrument (SI) 1991 No 824 "The European Communities (Recognition of Professional Qualifications) Regulations 1991".
The professional engineer titles awarded by the council (listed in the UK-SPEC standard) are:
- Chartered engineer (CEng)
- Incorporated engineer (IEng)
- Engineering Technician (EngTech)
The ECUK International Committee is a member of FEANI and as such is responsible for the administration of the European Engineer title within the United Kingdom.
[edit] Engineering Technician
Engineering Technician is a professional qualification (not an academic degree) offered by professional associations that are members of the Engineering Council UK. Engineering Technicians are technicians involved in the application of proven procedures and techniques to the solution of engineering problems.
Gaining the Engineering Technician qualification means proving competency against a list of core competences covered by UK-SPEC.
Persons who gain the Engineering Technician qualification use the postnominal letters EngTech.
