An EMD GP39DC is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in June 1970. Power was provided by a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD engine that generated 2,300 hp. This locomotive model was basically a GP39 with DC main generator instead of an alternator.
2 examples of this locomotive model were built for Kennecott Copper Company. These units were also unique in that they sported extra tall control cabs, and higher ground clearance for use in the company's open-pit mines.
