Edward Aloysius Cardinal Mooney (May 9, 1882 — October 25, 1958) was a U.S. cardinal, elevated to that position in 1946. Born in Mount Savage, Maryland, his family moved to Youngstown, Ohio when he was young. Mooney was ordained a Catholic priest on April 10, 1909, serving the Diocese of Cleveland. On January 31, 1926, he was consecrated a bishop, and served as an apostolic delegate to India and Japan before being recalled for a post in the United State. He served as bishop of Rochester, New York from August 28, 1933 until May 30, 1937. Leaving Rochester, he served as the Archbishop of Detroit between May 31, 1937 and his death in 1958. Upon his elevation to Cardinal on February 18, 1946, he was appointed the Cardinal-Priest of S. Susanna, the home of the American Catholic Church in Rome. His death came in Rome, Italy literally hours before he was supposed to enter the conclave that elected Angelo Cardinal Roncalli, who took the name John XXIII.

Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio is named after him. It is not far from where he spent his childhood. A former Cardinal Mooney High School in Greece, New York, a suburb of Rochester, New York closed in 1989.
