Earl of Dundonald

The title Earl of Dundonald was created in 1669 in the Peerage of Scotland for the soldier Sir William Cochrane. Other titles held by the Earl of Dundonald are: Lord Cochrane of Dundonald (created 1647) and Lord Cochrane of Paisley and Ochiltree (1669). Both subsidiary titles are in the Peerage of Scotland.
The Earldom is named after Dundonald, South Ayrshire (see Dundonald Castle). The family seats are Lochnell Castle, near Oban, Argyll and Bute, and Beacon Hall, near Cranbrook, Kent, England.
