"Don't Bother" is the first single from Shakira's second studio English language album, Oral Fixation Vol. 2. The song is about a woman who has been left by her man for a woman who is almost unbelievably good in all aspects. The one aspect where she feels she is perhaps better is the way in which she would touch him. She tells him not to bother if he hurt her feelings, because she will not be crying for him; instead, she will move on with her own life.
[edit] Release
The song was officially released on AOL Music First Listen Session on October 9th and is available on radio stations since October 11th 2005. iTunes and other digital music stores have the single available for download since October 18th.
[edit] Music video
The music video was directed by the visual artist Jaume De la Iguana, premiered on MTV's Making the Video on October 27th. The music video for the song shows Shakira's boyfriend returning at her home early in the morning (which insinuates that he was with another woman), and laying down to sleep. When he sleeps, Shakira picks up his car keys and drives it to a scrap heap. When she gets there she starts destroying his car, doing a "voodoo" on him using his car. Everything she does to his car is reflected on his body. Some scenes of Shakira in the shower (with clothes) are also seen.
The car used in the video was a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback."Shelby GT 500" Eleanor Replica built to look like a car from the movie "Gone in 60 Sec".The car was built by Custom-Musclecars.com.
The car is not actually crushed, a 1967 Ford Mustang, more suitable for crushing, was used in the car-crush scene, dressed up in fibreglass to look like the boyfriend's car.
The pink guitar played by Shakira in the video was custom made by Hamer Guitars. It is a Hamer Special Korina Jr. model with a Seymour Duncan SP-90 soapbar pickup.
[edit] Chart performance
"Don't Bother" debuted at #74, then the next week it fell out of the hot 100 for a week then it rentered at #81, it peaked at #42 which failed to live up with expectations. In the UK it debuted at #9 but fell off quickly. This would lead to "Oral Fixation Vol. 2" having poor sales and the make of the worldwide smash "Hips Don't Lie".
