Dimitrios Papadopoulos (Greek: Δημήτρης Παπαδόπουλος; born 20 September 1981 in Kazakhstan) is a Greek footballer.
[edit] Playing Career
From the age of 8, he played for the youth academy of Akratitos FC, the team with which he started his professional carrer in 1999, contributing to that team's promotion to Alfa Ethniki in 2001.
At that time he moved to Burnley in England, where he played for 2 seasons, playing a total of 35 games and scoring 6 goals. On 20 August 2002 he won his first cap for the Greece.
In July 2003 he was transferred to Panathinaikos.
2004 was the peak of his career. He won the double with Panathinaikos and was the top scorer for his team (17 goals in 26 games). Also, he was voted best footballer of the year in the Alfa Ethniki. He was a European Championship winner with his national team at 2004 European Football Championship and a member of the Greek Olympic Football team during the Olympic Games of Athens 2004.
So far he has played with Panathinaikos for the last three seasons and has won 19 caps scoring twice for Greece. In June 2006 he renewed his contract with Panathinaikos for a further three years, and is currently captain of the first squad.
