PROFILE
DILIP CHHABRIA 52, majored in Transportation Design from Art Center, Pasadena, and worked briefly for GM, Detroit. Realizing that it would be at least 25 years before he could be given the opportunity to design a wide new car and not wanting to continue working building GM’s brand equity, Dilip Chhabria took the courageous step of returning to India to incept DC Design in 1993.
The premise of DC Design was to battle with the Italian studios for design prototyping services. He soon realized that coupled with his talent, qualifications and leadership; there could be a unique situation of delivering First World attributes at Third World prices.
DC Design is today a 300 people organization having created more than 550 uniquely designed fully functional cars (a world record!), and encompasses a wide spectrum from city cars, to sports cars, to luxury coaches.
DC Design caters to corporate clients like Aston Martin, Renault, Nissan, Ford, Toyota, Fiat, Hyundai, Suzuki, GM etc.
DC Design also caters to a very exclusive clientele which include leading film, political and industrial big wigs and among the few milestone cars are the Mercedes W221, Stretch, Porsche Cayenne, Aston Martin AM V8 Vantage and Rolls Royce.
DC, the man is poised to grow many folds in years to come, while DC Design is today a one of its kind company in the developing world and has no competition even from countries like China.
Recently, an NRI from London sent a Rolls Royce to his workshop in Pune, India, and had DC, as he is fondly knowm, convert it into a sports car. On spotting the car on the streets of London, Rolls Royce received inquires on whether they had rolled out a sports model!
His clients include business tycoons from all over the world and Bollywood biggies like, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Dachchan, Sanjay Dutt... to name a few.
