Deland High School is a public high school in Deland, Florida (Volusia County) with enrollment of approximately 3,200 students, a student/teacher ratio of 18, and a graduation rate above 90%. The school opened in 1962.

[edit] Fashion Plates
Fashion Plates is a fashion and marketing club at DeLand High School under the instruction of Loammi Caros. This club involves putting together shows such as Mr. DeLand High School, other shows for the community, and thousands of fundraisers.
[edit] Controversy
In May 2002, 12 students super-glued stolen beehives within the school and also glued a large number of classroom and building doors. The school prank resulted in the release of a swarm of 80,000 bees. The students were suspended and later sentenced to perform community service. This prank was also the first to air on MTV's show High School Stories: Scandals, Pranks & Controversies receiving an hour long special.[1]

- Lisa Davies, Former Fashion Plate, she now models for campaigns such as Emporio Armani.
- Theodore "Teddy Bear" John Shistle III, Current director of bands. (class of 1996)

DeLand's band has gained recognition over the last 4 years with Ted Shistle's direction. Since his employment the band has visited the FBA's State Concert Festival three times, twice receiving the highest possible ratings. Additionally, the band has consistently received superior marks in the District FBA Marching Festival and has visited the Georgia Peach Bowl, where it received recognition as Concert Band Grand Champion. Also, the band recently participated in the 2nd Annual Timber Creek Performing Arts Marching Festival, and placed 4th Overall and 2nd in Class, during competition. Their Percussion came in 3rd overall in the standstill competition, and were awarded best Tenors. [5]
[edit] Theory of Knowledge
Deland High is home to the International Baccalaureate. An integral part of this rigorous acedemic program is the Theory of Knowledge class. In this class students learn about the broad topic of epistomology under the direction of the overqualified Tamara Glickman. Before becoming a teacher, Tamara attended a military academy, and has held past jobs at Walt Disney World on The Great Movie Ride, NASA as a gift shop attendant for space camp, been an economic advisor for several major companies, Shift Manager at McDonalds Corporation, Lobbyist for the tobacco industry, and Head Greeter at Wal-Mart. She has also contributed to Fox News, CNN, OROCK 105.9 WOCL, and published many articles on her own personal BLOG. She has been teaching at DeLand High for two years. She has achieved these many accomplishments all before the age of 31.
