David Corn

David Corn is a political correspondent for The Nation and author of the political book The Lies of George W. Bush as well as the political novel Deep Background and the biography Blond Ghost: Ted Shackley and the CIA's Crusades.

He is the co-author (with Newsweek reporter Michael Isikoff) of Hubris: The Inside Story of Spin, Scandal, and the Selling of the Iraq War, a political book released in September 2006 about the selling of the 2003 Invasion of Iraq to the U.S. public and the ensuing Plame affair.

Since May 2005, Corn has been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post. He is also on the editorial board of Open Source Media, founded by Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs. Mr. Corn writes his own blog at DavidCorn.com.

David Corn is a FOX News contributor and has published articles, including political satire and book reviews, to The Washington Post, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Boston Globe, Newsday, Harper's Magazine, The New Republic, Mother Jones, The Washington Monthly and The Village Voice.

I'm on the left, but I try not to be knee-jerk, although I am strong in my values. I am not interested in spinning news, but to promote values I think are important for the nation, and to spread the word and the facts. On my blog, I like to have fun. I have done standup comedy in front of crowds, and discussed that in my blog. I try to zag instead of zigging. My site has a completely unregulated comments section, and I will get hundreds of comments. People post a lot of items I find quite useful as resources. I have resisted regulating it, or even forcing people to register, but some people create difficulties.

Syndicated columnist Robert Novak, who panned Corn's and Isikoff's book, Hubris, about the Plame affair and the Bush administration's handling of the Iraq war (in which Novak was criticized), said of Corn and the Plame affair, "Nobody was more responsible for bloating this episode."^[1]

Corn was in close contact with former State Department official Joseph Wilson and his wife, Valerie Plame. In Wilson's 2004 book, The Politics of Truth, he wrote that Corn contacted him three days after syndicated columnist Robert Novak wrote that Plame was a "CIA operative". Wilson wrote that Corn called him on July 17, 2003 "to alert me what Novak had done, or at least what the person who had leaked Valerie's name to him had done, was possibly a crime."^[1]

Novak later wrote, "Corn telephoned me on July 16, 2003, two days after publication of my Valerie Plame column. He was [talking like] ... an impassioned, angry activist who accused me of 'outing a CIA agent' and breaking the law. Since the Nation had never before been concerned with the protection of intelligence agents, I suspected political motives behind Corn's outrage. It was our final conversation. The last thing Corn wanted from me was additional information."^[1]
