[edit] History
DHS was built in 1959, and is currently in a relatively stable state. Parts of ths school have partially degraded in integrity over the years, and it is now in "Planning for Improvement Phase: 1".[2]
Throughout the years, Dartmouth High has had two major additions, in 1961 and 1969. These added the "New Gym" to the school, a much larger auditorium, as well as a new wing facing the Halifax Harbour.
DHS's unofficial rival school is Prince Andrew High School.
[edit] Staff
In the 2005-2006 school year, Dartmouth High School had a teaching staff of roughly 60. Due to changes in the teacher pension plan in Nova Scotia, 19 of them are retired in 2006.
The school's principal, Phil Legere, was honoured with the SAA "Distinguished Principal's Award" in 2005.
[edit] The Arts
In 2003 and 2006, the school's concert band went to Cuba to help students in the country be able to become more musical, and to perform. The concert band usually goes on large trips to various places each year.
The drama department stages either a large scale play or musical every year. The participants and actors in these plays do not have to be enrolled in drama courses.
