Daniel Merriweather
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daniel Merriweather is a critically acclaimed award-winning R&B Singer/Songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Although he has yet to "cross over" commercially, Daniel has generated a huge "buzz" in industry circles, with such luminaries as Jay-Z and Q-Tip said to be fans of his work. He cites Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jeff Buckley and Herbie Hancock as his major influences. To date, Daniel has released only two singles; "City Rules" (which features New York MC Saigon), and "She's Got Me" (originally included in DJ/Producer Mark Ronson's "Here Comes The Fuzz" album) (both 2004). While neither song had any huge commercial success, both songs have become favourites in Australian clubs and urban music circles; and have won APRA and ARIA awards (APRA for most performed Dance work - "City Rules [1], ARIA for best Urban release [2]); with "City Rules" also getting some airplay on the major Australian commercial radio stations FOX FM (Melbourne)/2Day FM and Nova. Daniel has also supported Kanye West on his Australian tour, opened for Biz Markie in Brooklyn and Justin Timberlake in London; performed alongside Erick Sermon at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, headlined 2004's "City Rules" tour with Mark Ronson, Scribe and P-Money and guested on Australian rapper Phrase's 2005 album "Talk With Force".
Daniel is currently working on his debut album The Fifth Season; which will feature production from Ronson, former Noiseworks member Justin Stanley and Daniel's own Crooked Eye crew; as well as musical contributions from James Poyser and ?uestlove. It will be released through Marlin Records in Australia and Allido Records in the U.S.
