Cuban coat of arms:
The golden key in the top section of the coat represents Cuba, the "Key of the Gulf," between the peninsulas of Yucatan (Mexico) and Florida (USA). The rising sun represents the birth of a new nation. The three blue diagonal stripes represent the three departments in which the island was divided during the Spanish administration. The drawing in the lower right section illustrates the Cuban landscape, with its national tree the Royal Palm. The branches of Evergreen (left side) and Laurel (right side) represent the eternity and the glory for the new republic. Behind the coat, from bottom to top, there is a tight bundle of wands representing the spirit of unity. The bundle is crowned by a red bonnet, symbolizing freedom and the blood that was spilled during the Independence War. The lonely star in the bonnet represents that Cuba is an independent state.
This image depicts a seal, an emblem, a coat of arms or a crest.
A coat of arms can be depicted in multiple ways, and may only be used on Wikipedia if the design is available under a free licence. Otherwise, the depiction is not usable on Wikipedia, as a free equivalent should be producible, and it thus does not qualify as fair use. Representations of coats of arms are subject to copyright as original works of art and do not fall under Bridgeman Art Library Ltd. v. Corel Corporation's purview as they are not representations of two-dimensional works of art. A seal or emblem, on the other hand, can only have one design. These are in the public domain if their copyright has expired; otherwise they are subject to copyright restrictions. In the latter case, it is believed that the image may be exhibited on Wikipedia under the fair use provision of United States copyright law. If you are sure that this image depicts a seal or emblem, please re-tag it as {{seal}}. |
