[edit] Accounting?
"conceptual framework" could also be associated with accounting...... the IASB? International Accouting Standards Board issues an accounting conceptual framekwork......! 130.220.39.16 10:35, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Quinobi's question
So how does one "build" a conceptual framework?
(The above is attributed to User:Quinobi.) Hi Quinobi I have put a link to an entry for Conceptual object this might help. Conceptual framework's built from objects are crucial in many domains, very important in Artificial intelligence.

[edit] Accuracy and grounding
To my understanding, relational models, in the computing sense, are one narrow kind of conceptual framework, as are electrical engineering systems, or other systems modelled on them. Isn't a "conceptual framework" really just a type of theory or in some cases on ontology - a collection of related concepts? It would help this article be less vague and more correct if some authoritative sources were cited for the various claims about what a "conceptual framework" is. I'm also not sure this concept is distinct enough from these other ideas to be put in its own article, so I've added a proposed merger tag. -- Beland 21:25, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
I DISAGREE: A conceptual framework IS different from a theory. While there is some overlap, they should be treated as different. For example, if I wanted to study carers, my conceptual framework could be welfare and social rights. However, my theoretical framework could be a post-structuralist/Marxist/Feminist critique of how these concepts affect carers. In other words, theory is how the conceptual framework is interpreted. --17.10, 29 September 2005.
[edit] Conceptual framework and health evaluation/research
To my understanding the article definition is correct. Here is some citations.
A conceptual model (or conceptual framework) can be thought of as a theoretical map of a project or plan that sketches the relationship between different components and helps users find their way around. Just as a map lays out roads between cities and towns and guides travellers to their destination, a conceptual model defines pathways between key components and helps to clarify the processes that lead to the desired effect or outcome. (Horstman RG, 2002)
A conceptual framework of a project explains how results are to be achieved including causal relationships (inputs-processes-outputs-outcomes-impact) and underlying assumptions. In that sense, "results framework" could be a related term. (UNFPA GLossary)
Although conceptual models can be very elaborate and dense with theoretical components, they can also be very simple, linking together only the broadest of concepts. In the context of the Reproductive Health Interventions, the following statement is applicable: "the linkages infer that increasing the availability, quality and acceptability of reproductive health services, where there is popular and political support and demand for them, will lead to improvements in reproductive health status" (Bertrand and Tsui, 1995).
Conceptual diagrams, models, and frameworks are often used in public health literature to help illustrate relations between health exposures and outcomes. (Paradies Y, 2005) Eduardo 19:53, 29 March 2006
[edit] Link to function
This page links to the function disambiguation page, but it isn't clear to me which, if any, of the function pages it refers to. I believe that when it originally linked to function, function was already a disambiguation page. I'm going to delink it for now. Volfy 07:25, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Proposed merge with Theory
- Strongly oppose. Conceptual framework and Theory are very distinct concepts. The notion of a conceptual framework is standard in numerous literatures and has been so for quite a long time now. Moreover, conceptual framework is the more accurate term for many informal treatments and pre-theoretical views of particular subject matters that it is an abuse of language to call "theories". Jon Awbrey 14:00, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose. Conceptual framework, whilst possibly having different meanings for those in different professions and different strata of academia, is a much more specific concept than a theorum. The two are most definitely not interchangeable. 19:03, 16 May 2006 (GMT)
Strongly Oppose As i student i have been warned that conceptual framework and theory are two different things and cannot be used interchangeably.
- Strongly Oppose Conceptual framework and Theory are very distinct concepts. Conceptual framework is crucial to the construction of a Theory of Artificial intelligence for example. A single Theory could have competing Conceptual framework's. Nigel Savage 06:19, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
