Congress of the People

The Congress of the people met in Kliptown, a suburb of Johannesburg, in 1955 to lay out the vision of the South African people. It was a cooperation of the African National Congress, the South African Indian Congress, and the Congress of Democrats. The Freedom Charter was a result of this, and it became the manifesto of the African National Congress.
