Clive Richard Luke Clarke (born January 14, 1980 in Dublin) is an Irish professional football player. He is the second youngest of a family containing eight children. He started playing football with local club Newtown Schoolboys in his home town of Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow.
Clarke, a left back, currently plays for Sunderland of the Championship, after moving from English Premiership side West Ham United in a swap deal for George McCartney. He was brought to the East London club by manager Alan Pardew to provide cover for the first choice Paul Konchesky. As of 2 March 2006, he has made 1 Premiership and 1 FA Cup appearance for the club, making his Premiership debut in a surprise 3-2 win against Arsenal (the last time the two clubs would ever meet again at Highbury). He failed to hold a regular place in the first team and moved to Sunderland. On October 23, 2006 he joined Coventry City on a month's loan.
