Circle Bakote is a cluster of Union Councils in the east-southern part of Tehsil and district Abbotabad and located on the upper and west bank of river Jhelum at Kohalla Bridge. Bakote means the land of forts. Circle Bakote [1] is a region of eight union councils as UC Plak/Malkote, UC Birote Kalan/Khurd, UC Bakote, UC Nambal, UC Dallola, UC Boi, UC Patan, and UC Kukmang. It is called Provincial Assembly constituency PF 45. The people of mentioned Area demand the government of NWFP to promote it as Tehsil Circle Bakote. It starts from Garhi Habibullah to Bariyan - Koh Murree, River Kanhar & River Jehlum are the two Rivers in the Circle Bakote. Famous Hill Stations Meeran Jani, Mushpuri, Thandiyani, Pather Galli, Ayubia Khanas Pur and Nathia Gali. This Area has rich culture from Vedic Age. It was a route of Moshpuri (Moshpuri) a Vishnu temple.

Circle Bakote is always independent territory of brave and cultured people. It is never a part of Hazara since November 1859 when Britain annexed it to District Hazara as punishment of independent war of local Tribe. Before Islam all region was attached to Taxila Kingdom of Gandhara Civilization than it was the integral part of Kashmir till 1800, when Maharaja Ranjit Sing attached it to Lahore Darbar. British Government sold Circle Bakote to Maharaja Gulab Sing of Kashmir under the notorious Amritsar Agreement but Brave tribes of region resisted and blocked Kashmir trade route in Kohala, it annexed to Murre in February 1859 and then to Hazara. All tribes came and occupied territory from Kashmir time to time. In 17th century a Dhond Sardar Lahr Khan divided his territory by his brothers and finalized the borders from Manwan ni Hel to Lora on the west bank of river Jhelum to Islamabad, the last edge of last UC Birote of Hazara Devision on East-south. This line was drawn from river Jhelum to Sulleal (Lower Birote) to Aarhi, now called Hadd at upper Birote, Kanair Kas to Sorjal, Arwarh, thoba (Barhean), to Lora. This partition of land was accepted by Nalwa Sing administration of Rangit Sing and by Major Abbott, the 1st commissioner of Hazara as it is in 1850. The dominated people in Circle Bakote are belonged to Lehral Dhond Abbasi family. Lahral have possessed some special tradition of their developed culture. They also partitioned their land as the walking paths between lands as borders. They were progressive people who accepted growing trends of time. They were brave battled against Sikh rulers under the command of Pir of Plasi at Balakote in 1830, and fought against British in 1857 at Murree. They established 1st non-political and a literary organization named Anjuman Islah-e-Qoom-e-Dhond at Rewat Murree in 1924, the 1st president was Raja Kala Khan and 1st secretary General was Professor Karam Haidri of Tret. They were politically Muslim Leagueians and provided full sport to Muslim League of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, saluted to their beloved leader on old Kohala Bridge on 1945 when he returned from Sri Nagar. The also sported early Kashmir movement in 1947 to 1951. They provided asylum to Sardar Qayyom at Basian and fought among Kashmiries in Salian, Dherkote, Joli Chirh (native village of Sardar Qayom, now called Ghaziabad). In Kashmir independent war heroes of Circle Bakote were Sardar Yaqoob Khan of Basian, Lumberdar Isab Khan of Kaho Sharqi, Sardar Mehmood Khan of Birote, renowned poet Molana Yaqoob Alvi Birotvi of Birote.

[edit] Micronations of Circle Bakote and Murree Hills

The mountainous area of Circle Bakote and Murree Hills is a banquet of flowers and living all micronations tribe with brotherhood and harmony. Dhond {Abbasi} is largest micronation as its population but Karlal, Satti, Ketwal the oldest and real micronation, Gakhars, Awans, Sayeds, Goojars, Khakha, Bumba, Rajpoot, Bhati, Rehmanis, and many others living there. Before Islam this area was dominated by Hindu Khashteria tribe worshiped goddess Kohala Devi in Dewal temple. Kethwal tribe embraced Islam in 1090 and than Muslim micro nations increased their size and now no non-Muslim is in the area. Micronations in Circle Bakote and Murree Hills details are as below:

Dhond Abbasi tribe is a large as population in Circle Bakote and Murree hills. Dhond Abbasi's are as forth in NWFP, as two in Hazara Division and as seven in Punjab by population. They have their own language called Pahari also known as Dhondi, and they completed revolutionized culture and civilization. No person from Dhond tribe is non-Muslim, they all are belonged to Sunnies sect of Islam.Dhond Abbasi tribe [2] is dhondi/kareali [3] language speaking people is descendant of Shah Wali Khan whose nickname was Dhond Khan. Dhonds are a martial and an intelligent tribe if Circle Bakote and Murree Hills. They are belonging to Hadhrat Abbas, the real uncle of the Prophet of Islam Mohammed in Muslim Holy city of Macca. They came in power as Abbasid destiny and governed 500 years on Baghdad, Iraq as a center of Muslim Ummah. Abbasids 1st delegate came Taxila, India where they constructed a masque and started preaching of Islam by the order of Caliph Haroon Al-Rashid on 844 AD. An Abbasi scholar Abu Fadhal taught a Kashmiri King Onti Vermon on 882, and he translated Holly Quran in Hindi Bhasha 1st time in Indian history from Alif Lam Meem to Sorah Yasin. A Circle Bakote historian Mohammed Obaidullah Alvi wrote in his book Tarikh-o-Tamaddun-e-Kosar that in 1025 AD Raja Mell of Jhelum who also governed over Circle Bakkote and Murree Hills, embraced Islam by Mehmood Ghaznawi and constructed a fort at Malkote, Malpur near Islamabad and Malal Bagla opposite of east of Birote in AJK. He died in Jhelum. In 1021, local government of Gakhers, take place in Kohsar by an authority document of Mehmood Ghaznavi, that a time Gakhers contacted Dhonds in Delhi. Dhond Abbasis were living there, an ancestor Poro Khan came and settled there in 880 AD. Noh Khan was his son borne 900 AD. In 968, Karlal chief Sardar Galler Khan came in Circle Bakote from Turkey and settled there. Dhond Chief Sardar Taeq or Taif Khan met with Sabaktagin, the father of Mehmood Ghaznawi at Kabul in 975 AD and joined his army among other family members. This royal honeymoon continues until 17 attacks of Mehmood Ghaznawi than they became allies and guards of Gakhers Tribe of Kohsar and Potohar. There are two major Abbasi (Dhound Abbasi) families are living in Banda Jaat one is headed by Haji Mirdad Khan Abbasi other is headed by Haji Allah Dad Khan Abbasi (Paharlal), Haji Allah Dad's family is in majority and have very good political and social influence. Their Father Noor Ahmed Abbasi son of Amir Ullah Khan Abbasi migrated to city center Supply Abbottabad (old name Rush) in the sake of Education and Bread winning before Pakistan from Banda Khair Ali Khan, However their old 50% family members (Cusions of Amir Ullah Abbasi & Noor Ahmed Abbasi) are still based in Banda Khair Ali Khan with wast majority and great influence. There is another Abbasi Tribe with thick culture and sociality is based in Bandi Dhoundan. Most of the senior members of this family are well settled and new generation is well qualified educated. From this Family (Haji Allah Dad Khan Abbasi Tribe) Most successful person (with the grace of Allah Almighty) named Shahid Akram Abbasi is first MBA from Dhond Abbasi <Pahar Lal> Family of Shaikh-ul-Bandi, Banda Dilzak, established his own House, Street & Colony Names with the family name of Abbasi Occupied the land from Haji Mirdad Khan Abbasi And is prominent Person working abroad with Son of Late King Faisal's Group of Companies as a Financial Controller, (He traveled Middle East, Europe, Africa and whole Gulf. (He is first Abbasi family member who have white color Overseas Job of this level ) He is also the first Abbasi person who wrote two books over Computer Science (English & Urdu) in 1999 and delegated to his Late Father Mohamed Akram Abbasi Ex Officer/Banker of National Bank of Pakistan, Abbottabad who have Four sons Wahid Akram Abbasi, Imran Akram Abbasi (Business men in Gulf) & Waqas Akram Abbasi (Student). Haji Mushtaq Ahmed Abbasi is also one of Prominent member of Abbasi Family from Banda Dilzak and is highest ranking banker (SVP) of Banda Dilzak in Habib Bank Ltd. Mr. Mohamed Shafique Abbasi is the highest ranking FPO Officer of this tribe. Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Abbasi is role model of nobility and courage for next generation is very humble and polite person who is one of the influential person in politics & social developments of the local region. The other prominent members of Abbasi family are Mirdad Khan Abbasi, Haji Allah Dad Abbasi, Retd. Sub. Iqbal Abbasi, Mohamed Akram Abbasi (late), Mohamed Aslam Abbasi, Tahir Iqbal Abbasi Local Singer is unforgettable to describe here. They are all next to kin of Ameer Ullah Abbasi.

karlal or kiraalorkard'al or karhral are the name of a same tribe. Karhrals are the second micronation of the Area came from turkey and dominated. The name of chief was Sardar Ghallar khan.Therefore, they are called kiraal. Which means "Sons of Ghallar". The developed the hills and established self government. They are brave tribe and never stoop before English and British army. They are also known as sardar. The famous personalities of this tribe are "Sardar Hassan Ali Khan", "Sardar Hadiar Zaman khan (now chief of karlal)", Sardar Nasir Rehman son of Sardar Fazal-ur-Rhman (Berin Galli)".

Gujars are known as choudhries and are the natives of the area. There was hardly any educated person at the time of independence but in 50 years they have improved a lot. They are beautiful, intelligent and hard working people.

Sati micronation is also a small micronation and a few groups living in Circle Bakote and largest by population in Kotli Sattian, south east of Murree Hills.

Gakhars also known as Kayani are a prominent tribe of Circle Bakote. They are of Iranian origin and according to Shahnameh written by Persian Poet Firdowsi in 1000 AD, their ancestors ruled for centuries. They have written and documented history going back to thousands of years BC.

Alvi Awan is a traditional well known cast of the region. They are the descendants of the fourth Caliph Ali. They are scattered throughout the region of circle Bakote and are comprised in majorities in areas like Abbottabad, Birote Thandiani, Nathia Gali e.t.c They mainly comprise of rich middle class people and many working class people. Awans of this area are known to be brave, Valiant and are recognized as a Martail Race by the British. Awans fought valiantly against the Sikh and the British and were the first of the region to support the banner of Muslim League. They were always in favour of Pakistan and many prominent members of the Muslim League were Awan. Mohabbat Husain Awan is a thinker and scholar of Awan tribe of Circle Bakote who wrote eight books especially Tareekh-e-Alvi Awan, Awan Tareekh Ke Aene Man, Awan Gotain and a unique book on life of Holy Prophet Muhammed[[4]] named Assan ne Nabi Pak Hore first time in local Dhondi/Karheali Language. He belonged to Taj Mohammedal Awan family of Birote. Mohammed Obaidullah Alvi is also a famous journalist of Naik Mohammedal Awan family of Circle Bakote belonged to UC Birote. Other important personalities of Awan tribe of Circle Bakote are Pir Faqir-u-llah Bakoti, first Arabic, Persian and Urdu poet of Kohsar Molana Yaqoob Alvi Birotvi, first head teacher of vernicular School Birote Molana Ismail Alvi, First scollar of Deoband (India) Molana Dafter Awan, first greduate of Birote in 1919 from prestigious Gordon Gollege Rawalpindi Mohammed Suleman Alvi, First servayer of cencess department of India who survayed of population and micronation of Circle Bakote in 8191 and 1901 Mohammed Ji Awan, first freedom fighter of Kashmir independant movement and embraced martyredom in Srinagar in 1931 and step-son of Pir Bakoti Molana Abd-u-Rehaman Awan, first methematics PhD leurate of Pakistan and senior scientist in KRL Mrs. Tahera Haroon (step grand-daughter of Pir Bakoti) and first and current principal of Girls Higher Secondary School Birote Mrs. Farrukh BiBi is also daughter of Awan family of Birote Circle Bakote.

There are two kinds of Seyeds, one is Meshadi, migrated from Rahi Lora of District Abbottabad living in Birote and second is Bokhari Syed migrated in mid of 19th century and living in Kahu Sharqi, Ali Abad (Pichbhanna) Bhan (Birote Khurd)

This tribe migrated from Hawailian, District Haripur in 1876 and stayed in Basian and Osia Murree. A few houses are founds in Basian now. Very important personality of Jadoon tribe in Circle Bakote was Qazi Abd-ul-Haq Jadoon and Master Khateeb-u-Rehman who performed pilgrimage of Meccah on foot. Fakhr-u-nesa Jadoon is the first Poetess of Dhondi language of the Area, living in Kherindi Birote Khurd. Dr. Malik Mehmood of Osia Murree is also belonged to Jadoon family.

[edit] Bhati Rajpoot

Mentioned tribe is very influential and expert of footwear making, no political candidate can ignore them for their vote power. New generation of Bhati Rajpoot tribe changed their professions and they act a very important role in socio-political culture. They servicing in Pakistan Airforce and Pakistan Ordinance Factory. They are operating a supper-store in Newyork USA. Main personalities ao tribe are Mohammed Hafiz Rajpoot, Mohammed Aslam Rajpoot of Birote, Yaqoob Khan (Govt Contractor in British era) of Basian.

There are people living in the area belonging to every walk of life but some professions had been vanished by time and some are changing their shape. Vanished professions are singing (Mirasies), Qaswies (Jolahas), Leather makers (Chamears) and barbers plus penis cutters (Naies) Kalals (Poters) and agriculture (Zimidari).

[edit] Journalism History of Circle Bakote

The local people of Murree Hills and Cirle Bakote entered in journalism through newspaper selling profession in 1936. The first journalist of Murree is still unknown but the first journalist of Circle Bakote was Qazi Hadayetullah of Union Council Bakote, who was vergon and spent his 23 years in the Daily Zimidar Lahore (1932-52). Syed Amir Ud Din Sha Kazmi from Tauri Union Council Boi was the First Person to get Declaration copy of Weakly Pakistan from British Government from AbbottAbad Office. And it is proved that He was First Person to Use Word "Pakistan". There are four Daily Newspapers Daily Ousaf, Daily Musalman Daily Azkar and Daily Nawa-i-Hazara publishing from Islsmabad by the editors of Murree Hills and Circle Bakote, named Raja Mehtab Khan of UC Phagwarhi, Tikka Khan Abbasi (well known Akhbarfrosh leader and ex-fedral minister) of UC Jhika Gali, Ilyas Abbasi of Namb Romal and Khurshid Abbasi from Bakote. There are also two weeklies are publishing regularly named Hill Post and other is Hill News [[5]] by highly qualified working journalists Mohammed Obaidullah Alvi[[6]], AD Abbasi, Ishteaq Abbasi, Talib Abbasi, Zafir Abbasi and many more journalists. Two other weekly newspapers Hill Times published by Murree Journalist Hafiz Tahir Abbasi but could not survive and closed publication in 1999 and weekly Akhbar-e-Kohsar printed by Saeed Abbasi (now Amir of Jamat Islaami PF-45), Safi-u-Rehaman Abbasi (Osea) with co-ordination of many lawyers of Murree and Circle Bakote in 1987 from Karachi. After a short time Weekly Akhbar-e-Kohsar was take over by new entered journalist brothers Fida Husain Abbasi (now editor of Daily Kaenat Karachi) and Sajjad Abbasi (now deputy editor of Daily Ummat Karachi) of Birote in 1989. They published this newspaper and compete with weekly Hill Post but stopped publication in 1992 due to murder of Fida Abbasi brother in Birote. Weekly Tarjuman-e-Abbasia is a brilliant house journal of Dhond Abbasi tribe published under the direction and supervision of Anjuman Ittehad-e-Abbasia Karachi, was appeared in 1995 by Safi-u-Rehaman Abbasi. In 2005 another weekly Taaqub started her publication but it closed after two months in 2005. The 1st newsmagazine of Circle Bakote was Weekly Tarjaman, which published from Karachi under the editorship of Ghulam Kibreya Abbasi of Kahoo-Sharqi Birote in 1970 till 1973. This paper contained 36 pages and 1st and last is in two colors. The 1st paper on Photostat published in Rawalpindi named Hamwaten Bakote by Yari Khan Ulfat in 1984 and second was Monthly Zanjeer from Birote by a group of students in 1995. In Phagwarhi a hand written newspaper Dara of four pages was published from Karachi in 1979 till 2002 by Aashik Abbasi. A Photostat newspaper was also published from Osea in 2003 but name is unknown. The huge magazine of the area appeared in the last month of 1991 by Ata-u-rehman Abbasi of Birote form Rawalpindi, named was Monthly Purcham. Only one issue was published under the editorship Ata-u-rehman Abbasi and then stopped. Monthly Percham have 250 pages of three columns, mostly article were reprinted, extracted from books and other newspapers and magazines. The first high educated and fulltime journalist of Murree is Jawed Siddique (Jawed Akhter Abbasi) of Rawat, now resident editor of Daily Nawa-i-Waqt Islamabad. He is grandson of Raja Kala Khan and cousin of Nazim Murree Raja Salim Khan. He started his carrier as journalist with Weekly Hurmat Islamabad, and then he joined Daily Jang Rawalpindi as political reporter, chief reporter Daily Nawa-i-waqt Rawalpindi, executive editor Daily Ousaf Islamabad till 2003. The first high qualified journalist from Circle Bakote isMohammed Obaidullah Alvi who not only work with Daily Jang Rawalpindi, Daily Nawa-i-waqt Islamabad, Daily Ousaf Islamabad, Daily Mashriq Karachi, Dawn Karachi, Daily Musalman Islamabad, Daily Khabrain and now as research editor with Islam Group of Newspapers in Karachi. He also the founder of Weekly Hill Post and Weekly Hill News. Other important personalities of Murree and Circle Bakote journalism are Kalim Abbasi of Bhan Birote Khurd (Calligarapher and artist, art Director of Orient Advertising Peshawer) Aftab Abbasi of Bakote, (Arabic/English news editor of Libea TV in Tripoli) Naeem Abbasi of Bhan Birote Khurd, Producer and newseditor of Aaj TV Karachi).Sajid Quresh Abbasi , Qaiser Quraish Abbasi of Abbasiyan Chief Executive Weakly Ahbar-e-Kohsar From Karachi. A new daily newspaper NAWA-I-HAZARA started her publications from Islamabad and Abbottabad at a time on 14th of August 2006 under the editorship of famous journalist M Khurshid Abbasi of Mojwal, sub-tribe of Dhond of UC Bakote & Youngist journalist of PakistanHANAN ALI ABBASI' is Deputy editor of Nawa-i-Hazara.

[edit] Theosophy and Sufism

Circle Bakote is a traditional and religious land in Mountains and a famous route between Kashmir and ancient Taxila And Gandhara Kingdom. In prehistory when the Circle Bakote and and Murree was under water, Vadic Risshies were writing Rig Vada on peaks of Musearhi and Moshpuri. A temple was built by unknown king in 8000 BCE in memorial of Sita godsess, god Hannuman Ji and god Lakshmen Ji by the order of Kirshan Ji Maharaj. A rout of Bhudist scholars was laid there from Taxila Bhudist University to Sharda Sub-campus of her via Lora, Narha, Thoba (Barhian), Nathea Gali, Moshpuri, Birote Khurd and Domail Kanair Pull on River Jhelum into Kashmir in Ashoka time. Islam forwarded in this area in 12th century when Muslim tribes spread in Kashmir and the crossed Riever Jhelum into Circle Bakote. The first tribe of Area was who embraced Islam was THE KETWALS and SATTIES. They were Persians and worshiped Zoroastrian and Sheveism as a new religion. Famous Muslim saint Syed Ali Hamdani influence reflect mentioned area and many Muslim families came there but it is very strange that there was no maque in Circle Bakote till 17th century. The first Muslim tribe Karhal occupied area in 14th century and Dhond Abbasi tribe in 15th century and both fought against Ketwals and Satties and expelled them from Circle Bakote. The Islamic culture was fully enforced, burned and destroyed all Hindu and Buddhist temples but not built any masque there. In 17th century, a Dhound Abbasi fudal Chief Malik Soraj Khan became a theosophy minarat of light. He was first Saint, Poet of Dhondi Language, a religious scholar too. His mother Rehmat Jan was a Satti lady. He built first Masque in Potha (Aliote, now Alyote) seven km of north of Murree City. People of Circle Bakote and Murree Hills felt anxiety during early Sikh era and they fought against them in Balakot under the command of Pir of Plasi Seyed Mohammed Ali Shah, a close companion of Mujahid Leaders Syed Ahmed Shahid and Shah Ismail Shahid, grand sons of Shah Waliullah Dehlvi, but not succeeded and embraced martyrdom in Balakot. After this incident Seyed Mohammed Ali Shah shifted to Bakot in 1832, built a masque there and lived till his death in 1849. He was first religious saint but his influence eclipsed after the arrival of Pir Faqir-u-llah Bakoti(died-18th November, 1921) [8] from Pajja Shrif, Chikar (AJK). Pir Faqir-ullah Bakoti was a great soofi saint who had thousands of followers. He was a well known figure of Circle Bakote. He invited people to follow the teachings of Islam in his unique way. First he came Birote in 1870 and married in Naik Mohammedal Awan Family, and a land of 12 kanals were gifted him by Kamalal sub tribe of Dhond there, than he migrated to Bakote because a Ahmdea Qadeani Molvi accompanied a masque in Central Bakote. He beated mentioned person and taught the people of Bakote the faith of LAST MESINGER OF GOD. Pir Atiq ullah Bakoti [9] was first member of NWFP legislative assembly (M.L.A) from Circle Bakote. He was second son of Hazrat Pir Faqir-Ullah Bakotiand father of current Pir Azhar Bakoti. He was a great scholar and religious leader. He had thousands of followers in Circle Bakot, Murree, Azad Kashmir and all over Pakistan. He was educated in Deoband-India. He was a pupil of Akhwand Sahib (Molana Abdul Ghafoor of Swat, NWFP, and eyewitnessed of Sikh Afghan War). He organized Circle Bakote Muslim theoretically, spiritually, politically by an organization named Anjuman Mujahideen at Bakote, started Friday Prayers in Birote and Bakote and he participated every person problems. An other saint who came in Circle Bakote was Gull Baba from Mansehra and died at Ramkote east of Ayubia in 1943 and a tomb was built there.

The 1st press established by Shahab Al-din Jadoon of Basian at Workshapi Mohalla Rawalpindi in 1992. A person belonged to Bakote is also a proprietor of a press in Messy Gate Rawalpindi. Raja Mubeen Akhtar Abbasi of Reala/Malkote possessed a printing press in Islamabad. All four Daily newspaper of Murree and Circle Bakote, Daily Ausaf, Daily Azkar, Daily Musalman and Daily Nawa-i-Hazara have their own presses.
