Chryso (Fokida), Greece

Chryso, Chrysso, Chrisso or Chriso (Greek: Χρισσό or Χρυσσό), older forms Hrysson is a village located in the western part of the municipality of Delphi in the northeastern part of the prefecture of Phokida. It sits north of the ancient city of Krissa or Crissa (Greek: Κρίσσα) in which the name the Crisean Gulf originates. Crissa was one of the oldest cities in Ancient Greece and was founded according to Homer between the 15th BC and the 14th century BC. Chryso sits in the southwestern part of the Parnassus ranges. It sits on a mountain slope which is mainly composes of rocks and bushes. A valley which extends east of Delphi lies to the south. Another mountain is situated to the south. The village is connected by an old road which GR-48/E962 bypasses to the north. GR-27 (Itea - Amfissa - Lamia) lies ot the west. It is located about 4 km W of Delphi, W of Arachova, NE of Itea, and SE of Amfissa.

The area aroung Chryssa has mainly groves with a few pasture lands around Chrysso. Much of the land are mountainous. The panorama includes the valley to the west which includes the Crisaean plain, mountains to the west, the south and the Parnassus to the north. Parts of the east northeastern part of the Peloponnese can rarely be seen.

The rubble from the ancient wall of Krissa lies in the modern Stefani hill. The ancient city was devastated by Amphictiones in the war which lasted from around 600 BC and 590 BC. In the Crisaean fields, an ancient hippodrome is founded.
