Christine won a gold medal for England in the 400m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in a personal best time of 50.28s, beating favourite Tonique Williams-Darling in both her semi-final and the final.
Christine was also a netball player but quit in 2003 in order to concentrate on athletics. Christine studied linguistics at University College, London.
Christine Ohuruogu has been suspended from competing in the 2006 European Athletics Championships. The reason for this is she missed 3 out of competition drugs tests. One in July 2005, and two in June 2006. According to IAAF and British Olympic Association rules, she now faces a one-year ban for missing these out-of-competition drug tests.
As of September 2006, The British Olympic Association may now also ban her from competing at future Olympic Games for Great Britain.[1]
She is of Nigerian Heritage.
