Thanks for uploading Image:Andy.gif. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] Uploading images

First, check out Wikipedia:Image use policy. Most photographs you might find online, like through google image search or things like that, are protected by copyright. Unless they are of something that cannot be photographed anymore, like a historical event or dead person, Wikipedia policy prohibits you from uploading them. All photographs that you take yourself are fair game, and there are a few sites that provide free-license photographs (Flickr, Wikimedia Commons, etc.). Finally, when you upload an image, make sure you state where you found it and make sure to add the right license tag.
