Cheyenne Frontier Days

Cheyenne Frontier Days, held annually since 1897 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, is claimed by its promoters to be the largest rodeo and western celebration in the world. The event, which always occurs during 10 days of July centered around the last full week in July, draws around an estimated 300,000 people to the area every year. During the event, the population of Cheyenne is increased around 500 percent.

This event features Nightly concerts by famous nationally or internationally popular music and comedy acts, a midway, a fair with rides, games, and food vendors, wild west shows, a Indian village, and a large PRCA/PBR nationally sanctioned rodeo. A common moniker for the event is 'The Daddy of em All' lending to the history and the fact that the rodeo is billed as the largest event in the world.
The event also features a free pancake breakfast, and nearly 40,000 people take advantage of this every year. In one week, over 100,000 pancakes will be served along with 3,000 pounds of ham. The 5,000 pounds of pancake batter are mixed in cement trucks.
The majority of the events are centered around the property of Frontier Park, but some of the events such as the pancake breakfast are held in a different part of the city. This event was held this year on July 21-30, 2006, and will be held July 20-29, 2007 which will be its 111th celebration.
Events at The Old West Museum and the Wyoming Transportation Museum also coincide with Frontier Days events.
An air show featuring the United States Air Force Thunderbirds Air Demonstration Squadron takes place every year on the Wednesday located in the middle of the 10 days of the event. The Thunderbirds share history with Cheyenne Frontier Days as they made their public debut at the 1953 Cheyenne Frontier Days event. They have continued to perform regularly since that date. The ground portion of this show along with static displays and flying of other aircraft take place at on the United States Air Force Reserve side of the Cheyenne Regional Airport. The Thunderbird main aerobatic display is performed over the campus at the Laramie County Community College.
The rodeo draws visitors from different parts of the United States as well as international visitors. These visitors generally stay in hotels, motels, or in Recreational vehicles. Temperatures in the ninety-degree range and fair weather are normal for the time of year this event is held.
Cowboy style bars and country and western themed establishments which create an adult night life atmosphere for attendees who file in after the night shows at frontier days have ended are scattered throughout the city of Cheyenne.
