[edit] Charr Description

The Charr are a sentient race of beasts. They resemble wolves that walk upright, and maintain many wolf-like features like exaggerated teeth size, dominant claws, and maintain a fur hide instead of bare skin like Humans. The Charr also wield comparable weapons to their human counterparts (axes, swords, & staves) and some Charr wear crafted metal armor, although generally most Charr warriors are bare chested. In a size comparison, a Charr warrior is usually twice as massive, and about one and half times taller than the largest a player could make a human warrior. The Charr also vary in sizes, such that the Warriors are bigger than the Monks, Necromancers, and Mesmers of the Charr horde.

The Charr control the lands in the north of Tyria, the continent in which Guild Wars currently takes place. After the Searing, an event in which the Charr summoned powerful magics to weaken the human kingdom of Ascalon and create a breach in Ascalon's Great Northern Wall, the Charr managed to push their way all the way south to Orrian Peninsula. They were repelled there by dark magics of the Orrian King's top adviser, Vizier Kilhbron. The dark magics repelled the Charr armies, but also consumed Orr in the process. The survivors of Ascalon also managed to control the ground just to the south of the Great Northern wall. The Charr control grounds just north of the Wall, with exceptions that have been recaptured, such as the Chapel at Nolani Academy, Piken Square, and Grendich Courthouse. The Charr still manage to exploit the breach in the wall occasionally, and Charr patrols can be found in Ascalon-controlled territory.

In contrast to the Humans of Guild Wars, the Charr have united and do not fight each other in the ways that Ascalon, Kryta, and to a degree, Orr did. The Charr army is fairly well organized, and during some missions in the game, there seems to be no stop to the number or onslaught of the Charr hordes. The Charr armies are usually led by identified generals, such as Garfazz Bloodfang. In Guild Wars these Charr bosses can easily be spotted by their relative higher level, a colored glow that surrounds them (as with all "bosses" in the game*), and of course their unique name.

The Charr love combat, and they are dedicated to battle and enjoy every second of it. Although players will occasionally run into a Charr ambush, the Charr patrols can easily be managed. However, if and when fighting multiple Charr, the Guild Wars generic tactic of taking out their monks first and warriors last tends to always work.

  • With a few notable exceptions, such as Rotscale the Bone Dragon.

[edit] Charr Gods

The Charr hold fire sacred. The Charr always keep a three-legged effigy burning; these are tended by Flame Keepers. If the Charr were ever to let the flames go out, their gods would not be pleased, and the consequence is as of now unknown. The Charr Elementalists almost exclusively use the Fire-line skills and spells. Charr warbands will usually create lesser effigies when they encamp. The Humans of Ascalon have recognized that Charr are usually nearby when the lesser effigies are lit, and that they can be less cautious and wary when they are not burning.

It is unknown wherether the Charr are worshiping Titans, Dragons or some other form of God. It is however known that when the Titans appeared, after being free by Vizier Khilborne, Charrs bowed to them as if they were gods. This can be interprated in several ways: the Charrs were afraid of the Titans and are bowing to them in fear, Titans are indeed the Charr Gods, Charrs are aligning with the Titans so they will help them defeat humans, or out of pure spite towards humans (who called the Charr to help them fight the Titans), or even a combination of the above mentioned. While the torches somewhat resemble Titans, the fire for the Charr effigies are brought from the Dragon's Gullet or Flame Temple Corridor and may be given by Glint or another alive dragon. Also crystals found after the Searing resemble the crystals found in Glint's lair, and the searing magic could be a doing of an angry dragon.

[edit] Charr Classes

The Charr have mastered all six classes of Guild Wars, and some Charr even seem to have a second profession. The following is an incomplete list of Charr Types and their main corresponding class.
