[edit] Characters of the first season

[edit] Hikaru Shidou

Hikaru Shidou with her Rune God Rayearth
Main article: Hikaru Shidou

Birthday: August 8th (Leo).

Bloodtype: O.

Favorite Food: Ice Cream.

Least Favorite Food: Anything Spicy.

Favorite School Subject: Biology.

Least Favorite Subject: Music.

Extracurricular: Kendo.

Hobby: Playing with her dog, Hikari.

Career Goal: Seeing-Eye Dog Trainer.

Hikaru (獅堂光 Shidō Hikaru?) is an eighth-grader who is small for her age, and is often teased for her boyishness. She helps her parents and her three older brothers (Masaru, Satoru and Kakeru) to run a school for Kendo. She is headstrong and determined, and in many ways very childish, but she is fiercely loyal to her friends. In particular, she wants to save Cephiro to get home to return to her dog, Hikari, her precious childhood friend. She uses fire-based magics, such as Fire Arrow and Crimson Lightning.

Hikaru is very popular with fans, especially with boys, because of her sometimes childish behavior; for example, in the manga, where Fuu is "asking" Ferio to help them, Umi catches on to what she's doing, but Hikaru has no idea what's going on. When Ferio agrees, Umi cheers, as does Hikaru, though she still doesn't get it. It's also mentioned that she's the most popular girl in her all-girls school.

She's becomes best friends with Umi and Fuu in the first season. In the second season, she falls in love with Lantis, and becomes friends with Eagle Vision of Autozam. However, in the manga, Hikaru is not romantically involved with anyone, despite Lantis hinting that he has strong feelings for her. Hikaru claims to love everyone and, due to her innocent nature, probably loves everyone equally.

In the second season when the need for a new pillar of Cephiro is urgent- people from all different lands flock to Cephiro to become the pillar. It is apparent from the first moment they are told they will be Magic Knights that Hikaru is the most strong-willed and passionate of the group. This leads to her eventually becoming the new pillar of Cephiro at the end of the season. Yet Hikaru decides that she would rather Cephiro not have to rely on one person to sacrifice themself for the good of the land- and uses her power as pillar to destroy the pillar system and allow Cephiro to function on its own.

Voiced by Julie Maddalena, Angelines Santana and Hekiru Shiina.

[edit] Umi Ryuuzaki

Main article: Umi Ryuuzaki

Umi (龍咲海 Ryūzaki Umi?) is tall, elegant, and has long flowing blue hair. She is an only child of rich parents, the two of which dote on her mercilessly and for whom she has great affection. A fencing champion, this quick-tempered and at first uncaring and even bitchy girl is perhaps the best-suited for the task at hand, but is also the most reluctant of the three Magic Knights since she's under great pressure to attend a fencing contest. She seems to not like Mokona at first, and even when she does become fond of her, still is annoyed at times by Mokona's behavior. She uses water-based magics called Water Dragon and Sapphire Whirlwind.

Romantically, Umi isn't involved with anyone in the manga, despite the hints of Ascot's affection for her and Mokona trying to set them up. In the anime, however, Umi falls in (mostly unrequited, though this isn't fully defined) love with Clef. She's friends with Tatra and Tarta, the princesses of Chizeta, whom she beat in sword fights at different times in the second series.

Also known as Marine Ryuuzaki.

Curiously, her parents had a minor cameo in Tsubasa Chronicle.

Voiced by Wendee Lee, Gladys Parra and Konami Yoshida.

[edit] Fuu Hououji

Fuu Hououji with her Rune God Windam
Fuu Hououji with her Rune God Windam

Fuu (鳳凰寺風 Hōōji Fū?) has short blond hair and glasses, and is more quiet and reserved than the other two members of the group. Her special skill is archery. She is also highly intelligent and logical, though this goes more for booksmarts than streetsmarts. Her magics, Winds of Protection and Healing Wind, are air-based, and are mostly healing and defensive in nature, although she has some other attacks, such as Emerald Tornado and Emerald Cyclone. She has an odd sense of humor and constantly points out the obvious, much to Umi's dismay.

Fuu is in love with Ferio, the estranged brother of Princess Esmeraude, who has been helping them since they met in the beginning of the first series. In the second series, Fuu has a friendship with Lady Aska. Before the friendsip, Lady Aska and Fuu had an archery contest, which Fuu won. Fuu is very polite and calls people Sir or Miss, but in the Japanese version she says -san.

Also known as Anne (or Anais in the Spanish translation) Hououji.

[edit] Trivia

The handle of Fuu's escudo sword has a very familar design. Its the same pointing tip of Sakura Kinomoto's staff in CLAMP Card Captor Sakura

Voiced by Ruby Marlowe, Marcela Bordes and Hiroko Kasahara.

[edit] Clef

Clef
Clef

He is the chief of all sorcerers in Cephiro, and was formerly Princess Emeraude's attendant. In the anime, he is turned to stone by Zagato shortly after being introduced to the three girls in the first episode, although he fights the spell and communicated with them through Mokona. In the manga he is referred to as Guru Clef and he is not turned to stone. He also leads all of Cephiro until a new pillar can be found. He and all other magicians used their willpower to create a castle to hold the inhabitants of Cephiro. When he first meet the girls, he reacts very passionately to Umi and Fuu calling him "squirt". He gets his name from the Mazda Clef.

Voiced by Steve Cannon and Nozomu Sasaki.

[edit] Mokona

Mokona hugged by Hikaru
Mokona hugged by Hikaru

Mokona (モコナ?) is a mischievous, nonsensical creature with a striking similarity to a white manju bun, with a red gem in his forehead above his eyes. From this gem he can produce a tent for the girls to sleep in, food, and other necessary supplies. He is unable to speak, aside from repeating the sound "puu", although Hikaru seems to be able to understand him somewhat. In the manga, Mokona is revealed to be the creator of the universe, along with Cephiro, and the other countries, as well as the laws for each of the countries. Mokona appears again as an important character in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHOLiC.

In Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Mokona is still the familiar white creature he is that travels with Syaoran and Sakura. In xxxHOLic there is a Black Mokona which serves as the communication device of the characters of xxxHolic and Tsubasa. However, both can speak English/Japanese/Spanish and [white] Mokona only says 'Puu' once [in the Del Rey translation.] In the ending of the 2nd volume of Magic Knight Rayearth Mokona and the rest of the Mashins declared that they will be traveling to other universe. This could explain why the characters of Tsubasa are partnered with Kudans that are in fact the 3 guardians of MKR. Also there is a relationship hinted in xxxHOLic of Clow Reed and Mokona.

CLAMP made a short illustrated backnovel about the Mokona's in Tsubasa and XXXHolic in which Yuuko and Clow Reed created Mokona Modoki after meeting the Mokona of Rayearth. The book is currently available in Japan and was one time posted in the official CLAMP website. The books name is Soel to Larg: Mokona=Modoki no Boukens

Voiced by Kaeko Sakamoto and Yuri Shiratori.

[edit] Alcyone

An ice sorceress who tutored under Clef and was brought up to attend to the Pillar. However, she fell in love with the high priest, Zagato, and for this love became his servant, although the affection is entirely one-sided. In the manga, she is killed after failing Zagato not once but twice. In the anime, she lives on until near the end of the second series; few after Zagato and Esmeraude's deaths, she's captured by the evil witch Debonair, who brainwashes her into becoming her slave. The Magic Knights capture Alcyone in battle, but she has lost her memories; when she recovers them, she reveals Debonair's plans for Cephiro, but her former mistress kills her before she can finish.

In the Sega Saturn game, Alcyone appears to die, then comes back near the end of the game in the later part of Zagato's palace. Her name is occasionally misromanized as "Alcione", this was featured in the first run of the English version of the manga. Her name comes from the Subaru Alcyone SVX (simply known as either the Subaru Alcyone or SVX in North America). In the Spanish version of the anime, she's known as Alanis.

Voiced by Barbara Goodson and Yuri Amano.

[edit] Ascot

Ascot is a Palu, a young child with the unusual ability to summon monsters who he considers to be his friends. Although hideous, they have no ill will, but villagers still fear them and thus Ascot was driven away until Lord Zagato offered to give him and his friends a home if they promised to serve him. He destroys Presea's house with his monsters, and more or less directly causes her death; later, he confronts the Knights again, but Umi slaps him for using his friends and causing him pain. This makes Ascot snap and he, along with his protector Caldina, leave Zagato. In the second series, he used the power of his own will to make himself into an adult because of his love for Umi; he still summons the monsters but has also learnt other spells from Clef to avoid using them as living weapons.

He's named after the Honda Ascot.

In the anime he was able to tell Umi his feelings before she left to fight for Tarta. Umi doesn't say anything.

Voiced by Mona Marshall and Minami Takayama.

[edit] Caldina

Caldina (changed to Gardina in TOKYOPOP's, but back to Caldina in later volumes of the English version of the manga) is a dancer who speaks with an Osaka accent (which is translated as a Deep Southern accent in the English dub, due to the translations having her say words like "y'all"), wears extremely skimpy clothing, and has an endless passion for cash, not unlike Naga from Slayers.

Zagato hires her as an assassin after his other minions fail; in addition to her dancing skills she's also an accomplished illusionist and hypnotist. In the anime she has great affection for Ascot, who she treats as a naïve kid brother, and after he deserts Zagato she follows him. Caldina also appears in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE as a bartender.

It is revealed in the second manga series that she is native to Chizeta. It's also been shown that Caldina is incredibly good at cards and other games of chance. Romantically, Caldina becomes involved with Lafarga in both versions of the series. Her name comes from the Toyota Caldina 5 door wagon.

Voiced by Lenore Zann and Yuko Nagashima.

[edit] Lafarga

Rafarga(hypnotized)
Rafarga(hypnotized)

He is the captain of the Guard and charged with protecting the Pillar. Although Cephiro is mostly peaceful, he kept himself busy slaying the occasional monsters that would appear. In his takeover of the country, Zagato hypnotized him into trying to kill the Magic Knights as a last-ditch effort to stop them before they challenged him personally, but the girls managed to knock sense into him. He goes against Zagato roughly at the same time Hikaru must met Rayearth, and she actually manages to summon her Mashin while trying to help Lafarga to fight Zagato himself. In the second part of the story, he is romantically involved with Caldina. Also known as Rafaga, from the Honda car of the same name.

Voiced by Bob Papenbrook and Yukimasa Kishino.

[edit] Inouva

Inouva was an anime-and-game-only character sporting elven looks and manner. He was a devoted servant of Zagato's, in fact he was a birthday present from Emeraude to her High Priest. Inouva is not, as he appears, human. He is in truth an animal-shaped elemental of lightning, but assumed a human form in order to better serve his new master. The animal form was rather like a giant dog with two tendrils streaming from its head, his name being reminiscent of the Japanese word for dog, "inu". His weak spot proved to be the gemstone imbedded in his forehead in either form. In the Spanish version of the anime, he's known as Nova. His names comes from the Honda Ascot Innova.

Voiced by Terrence Stone and Ryotaro Okiayu.

[edit] Emeraude

Princess Emeraude
Princess Emeraude

She is the current pillar, and the princess, of Cephiro. Little else is revealed concerning her nature until the climax of the first series, although she is highly loved by her subjects.

In the TV series it is revealed that she a noblewoman of the Cephiro land, Ferio's older sister, and uses her power as the Pillar to prevent him being punished when he steals something from her home, later. He had forgotten she was his sister because, at his own request, she used her magic to help him forget so he won't be grieving for her. In the manga series, she also is Ferio's older sister, but there is no mention of Ferio stealing something from her home, and he also does remember that she is his sister; in fact, he left the palace of his own will.

The pillar of Cephiro must spend every waking moment of their existence praying for Cephiro's benefit, and when Princess Emeraude falls in love with Zagato (the high priest), she couldn't stop thinking of him - not Cephiro. Because of this, Emeraude imprisons herself in the 'water dungeon' (what looks like a large peony in an underwater cavern beneath Zagato's court) with the idea that, if she cannot see him, she will forget him and do her duty right. Zagato, however, stays by her side; in despair, and knowing that her own death is the only way she can stop being the Pillar and leave Cephiro free to choose someone more suited, Emeraude summons the three girls from the Outside World -- but Zagato sends his henchmen to kill them so they can't reach her.

When this doesn't work and the magic knights kill Zagato, Emeraude collapses under her own will. Trasforming into a sinster and older version of herself, she breaks from water prison. This form is only filled with anger and pure hatred for the magic knights for killing Zagato - forgetting it was she who summoned them in the first place.

Zagato's court begins to fall apart beneath her anger, and she dons a centaur-looking Mashin and grabs Zagato's fallen sword. She begins to fight the magic knights in their Mashin and they see fleeting images of the real Emeraude (the pure, little girl form) who tells them of her plight. She tells the Knights she has realized that it would be better if she died than try to rule Cephiro with a heart tainted with grief and regret. No one of Cephiro is allowed to kill the Pillar, so the 'girls from another world' aka the magic knights are really only there for that purpose. The real and terrible duty of the magic knights is to come from their world, don the Mashin, and kill the current pillar of Cephiro... death is the only way for the Pillar to abandon its duty.

The knights resist at first, but finally and tearfully give in when Emeraude begs them to send her to 'where she can only think of Zagato' ("Send me to be with him...where I may only think of him!"). Emeraude dies, using the last of her power to send them home, back to the exact moment they disappeared off Tokyo tower. The last thing the girls see of her is an image of her purified adult self in Zagato's arms, smiling sweetly and thanking the Knights for granting her her last wish.

Also known as Princess Esmerald or Esmeralda, or Princess Emerald in the crossover to Tsubasa 4 and 5. She gets her name from the Mitsubishi Emeraude.

Voiced by Wendee Lee, Erica Araujo (she also voices Taata of Chizeta) and Megumi Ogata.

[edit] Ferio

Ferio
Ferio

The Magic Knights first meet Ferio in the Forest of Silence. Tough and possessing a sword taller than he is, he quickly develops a soft spot for Fuu which by the second season has evolved into love. Never completely honest with others, he made himself difficult for our heroines to trust.

In the anime he gives Fuu a jeweled orb (in the manga series, he gives her a ring identical to the one on his ear. Fuu loses it when the three get back to Tokyo in the first series, but in the second series, when they get back, he gives it to her for a second time.); since he has another one identical to it, he uses to communicate with her throughout the first series. Ferio once pretended to join Ascot, Lord Zagato's child summoner when he set a trap for the Magic Knights using his sound sensitive monster, Pajero.

In the first season, while the Magic Knights are facing Inouva in his true form, Ferio regains his memory from when he was young. He realizes that he was Princess Emeraude's one and only younger brother, and hears his sister's voice coming from his own orb, telling him how to defeat Inouva. Ferio relays the info to the Knights and they manage to kill Inouva.

Ferio gets his name from the Honda Civic Ferio and Ascot's monster which appeared in the episode featuring Ferio is named after the Mitsubishi Pajero.

Voiced by Terry Roberts and Takumi Yamazaki.

[edit] Presea

A master of weapon smithing. She is one of Clef's students and seems to have a crush on him. She helped the Magic Knights to make their legendary swords of escudo, before being killed (anime only) in an accident by an uncontrolled monster of Ascot.

In both the anime and manga series she also shows somewhat of a sadistic side, showing her ploting ways to "punish" makona for making a mess in her study including yanking his ears, hanging him upside down while she dances about him dressed as an indian, and yanking his ever-closed eyes wide open. Her trap captured the Magic Knights instead so she ponders weather to strech their cheeks or boil them in a big pot, again wearing a feathered headdress and doing a war dance.

In the second season in of the anime series, her twin sister, Sierra, poses as her. The only ones to realize that Sierra is not Presea are Clef, Mokona and Alcione, who also recognizes Sierra's deception stemming, among other things, from her love for Clef. Named after the Nissan Presea. When Clef confronts Sierra, he asks her why is she doing posing as Presea, and Sierra says she's doing this to help the Knights with their mission and continue her sister's legacy, but doesn't tell him that she likes him.

Her favorite food is listed as V-tek, a kind of candy from Cephero though she enjoys the candy Hikaru gave her almost as much.

Voiced by Jane Alan and Emi Shinohara.

[edit] Zagato

Zagato
Zagato

The brother of Cail Lantis, he is the head antagonist of the first season. When he is first introduced, he is seen as a terrible villain who has kidnapped the beloved Princess Emeraude, watching sinisterly as Cephiro crumbles without its pillar. In reality, he really isn't as sinister as he seems...

Head priest to Princess Emeraude and Clef's right hand, Zagato fell deeply in love with the beautiful and kind Princess. Despite her best efforts to put Cephiro first and foremost, Princess Emeraude fell in love with Zagato as well. When Emeraude goes missing, Zagato comes forth as having had kidnapped Princess Emeraude. In reality, Emeraude was so terribly upset by her lack of will she imprisoned herself in the water dungeon to avoid seeing Zagato. Zagato does not reveal this to the magic knights or people of Cephiro so the knights could come after him and he may destroy them.

The reason Zagato is this way is because of his deep love for Emeraude, and equally deep hate for Cephiro's pillar system. The pillar must devote every moment of their existence praying for Cephiro and never seek happiness from any place but seeing Cephiro prosper. Zagato was tortured seeing Emeraude chained down like this, and even more when she had to resist the love between them that had grown. He decides that rather Emeraude return as the pillar and continue to be a slave to Cephiro, he would rather have Cephiro cease to exist.

In the end of the first season, he is killed by the magic knights in a final attempt to protect Emeraude; his final words, "Emeraude, please...be free." His death causes Emeraude to become lost in her own grief and anger and eventually be killed by the magic knights.

Zagato is the name of a prestigious Italian automotive design studio and the moniker Zagato is attached to many of the cars they design.

Voiced by Lex Lang, Carlos Castillo and Juurouta Kosugi.

[edit] The Three Mashin (Rune Gods)

These are the three legendary guardians of Cephiro. Umi's is Celes (also known as Selece, Seles or Ceres in early translated versions), who first appears as a dragon; Fuu's is Windam (Windom in the official English release of the manga), a four-winged bird; and Hikaru's is Rayearth (Lexus in the OVA series), a wolf with a mane of fire. The three are old and ancient, and in truth are mecha used by the Magic Knights to help them combat Zagato. The three Mashin have ability to combine, and form a greater and much stronger Mashin (Which is unnamed by the authors, but sometimes named by the fanbase as "Combined Rayearth" or "Big Rayearth"). In the OVA, the combined mashin is named Rayearth. The "Rune God" name was only used in the official English release of the anime series. "Mashin" has a bit of a double-meaning; it is katakana for the English word "machine", but is a homonym of the Japanese word for "evil spirit". The three Mashin also feature as "Kudans" (a kind of protective spirit) in Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, also by CLAMP. Rayearth is assigned to Syaoran, Celes to Kurogane and Windam to Fay. Windam is possibly named after the Toyota Windom and Celes after the Toyota Corolla Ceres.

In the ending of the 2nd volume of Magic Knight Rayearth Mokona and the rest of the Mashins declared that they will be traveling to other universe. This could explain why the characters of Tsubasa have their Kudans that are in fact the 3 guardians of MKR. Also there is a relationship hinted in xxxHOLiC of Clow Reed and Mokona. CLAMP made a short illustrated backnovel about the Mokona's in Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC in which Yuuko and Clow Reed created Mokona Modoki after meeting the Mokona of Rayearth

Rayearth is voiced by Lex Lang and Hideyuki Tanaka.

Celes is voiced by Terrence Stone and Tessho Genda.

Windam is voiced by Lex Lang and Akio Ohtsuka.

[edit] Characters of the Second Season

[edit] Eagle Vision

He is a well-known and respected commander from Cephiro's neighboring country, Autozam, a technologically advanced world reliant on the mental energy of its citizens for its power. At once an enigmatic but fierce warrior and a gentle and chivalrous gentleman, he is the leader of Autozam's invasion of Cephiro. His father is the President of Autozam. When Lantis visits Autozam, the two become close friends. It is often speculated whether Eagle's love has developed into something more.

Eagle comes to Cephiro in hopes of duplicating the Pillar System back on his home world. However, he also wishes to become the Pillar for his own personal means. Eagle is actually very sick and wasn't even supposed to be alive by the time he made it to Cephiro. Eagle reveals to Hikaru that he wishes to become the Pillar to spare Lantis' life and be sleep forever with Cephiro.

In the end, Hikaru tells him it is unfair of him to leave all his loved ones behind and saves him, bringing him back to Cephiro and putting him on the way to restoring his health. In the anime, however, Eagle sacrifices himself in order to save the Magic Knights.

In the OVA he is Emeraude's brother and does his best to keep his sister happy. This includes trying to destroy Earth because he's certain that's what his sister wants.

He pilots a mecha, the FTO. He's named after the Eagle Vision and his mecha is named after the Mitsubishi FTO.

Voiced by Megumi Ogata, who also voiced Emeraude

[edit] Geo Metro

The second-in-command of the Autozam invasion of Cephiro. Muscular and good-natured, he acts much like an older brother to Eagle (it's speculated that he also has a crush on him) and has a weakness for sweets. Named after the Geo Metro econo car. He also pilots a mecha, the GTO, named after the Mitsubishi GTO.

[edit] Zazu Torque

Zazu is the extremely short teen mechanic of Eagle's forces. He has an obsession with pretty girls (in particular someone even shorter or younger than him. Like for example:Hikaru) and machinery. He also has a strong like for alcohol and often bothers Geo to get him some. Zazu is possibly named after ZAZ, short for Zaporozhsky Avtomobilny Zavod, a Ukrainian manufacturer and torque is a measure of an engines rotational force.

[edit] Lady Aska of Fahren

Lady Aska is the First Princess of the country of Fahren, and the head of the Fahren invasion force that attacks Cephiro. Her ship is the Dome, an immense dragon-shaped vessel. She laughs constantly, and has the tendency to say "We" instead of "I". She is very young, self-assured, and somewhat bratty (she wants Cephiro so her every imagination will become reality and in the English version, she wants to become pretty to impress San Yun.), but can use all the legendary but forbidden spells of the Royal Family, including the ability to conjure up creatures that she draws on ceremonial paper and use them as an attacking force. In the anime series, Aska looked up to Fuu as a sort of heroine; this relationship is nonexistent in the manga, as Fuu never spends time in her shuttle. She later decided to not rule Cephiro because Fuu told her in the anime series) that the Pillar can think of Cephiro itself but Lady Aska loves the people of Fahren so she couldn't complete the task of Pillar in Cephiro. Named after the Isuzu Aska.

[edit] Sanyun

Sanyun's is Aska's loyal servant and childhood friend. He's much more thoughtful and studious than she is (though he really doesn't look it) and hopes to one day assist her in ruling Fahren.

In the manga series, CLAMP vaguely makes it look like there's a slight relationship between Aska and Sang Yun.

He makes a short appearance in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle as the Kudan of Masayoshi Saitou and contains a feather belonging to Sakura. Like the manga and Anime the Kudan grows to a giant monster imaged after SanYun

[edit] Shang Yung

In the anime, Chanan is a Fahren cabinet member and current ruler of the realm until Aska comes of age. He puts a lot of pressure on Aska to become a good ruler, which causes her to think of him as a 'preachy old man' and in the English version a 'bigmouth'. In the manga series, Chanan assists Lady Aska in her invasion of Cephiro. Throughout the second series, he constantly loses his temper with her because of her rash actions, and silly decisions. Chanan also makes an appearance in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle in the Country of Oto.

[edit] Tarta

She is the hot-headed princess of Chizeta, which sends its forces to conquer Cephiro and extend its territory. She is especially good at sword combat and can summon the djinn Rakoon. She wants to rule Cephiro as the Pillar to give a better life quality to the Chizeta people, since their planet is too small. In the anime, she has a friendly rivalry with Umi.

Also known as Tetra.

[edit] Tatra

Is Tarta's calm and apparently ditzy older, twin sister who, when focused, is a formidable warrior. She can conjure the djinn Rasheen to do her bidding and go into battle for her. Later in the second season, it is discovered that she is actually quite a formidable opponent in battle, choosing to use a whip against her enemies; according to Tarta, Tatra is the best fighter in all Chizeta. Tatra shares her name with a car and truck manufacturer from the Czech Republic.

In the 2nd season of the anime, each of the girls in Magic Night Rayearth was taken to each of the invading countries of Cephiro. She and her sister faced Umi in a test of sorts inside their battleship

[edit] Nova

As an anime-only villainess, Nova is introduced as the daughter of Lady Debonair. She has a very slender form with pink hair and elfin ears, and appears to be of a similar age to the three heroines. Throughout the series, Nova gives the impression of being an unstable character, often switching between expressing affection and issuing death threats in the space of a heartbeat.

Frequent hints about a hidden bond between Nova and Hikaru escalate until the truth is revealed in the culmination of the second season. Nova is really a shadow of Hikaru's heart. When Hikaru couldn't get over the fact that she killed Princess Emaurade, Nova was created in that instant. Since Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu left right after, Nova was left behind in Cephiro. She searched and searched but couldn't find Hikaru. Then Lady Debonair came and told her she would treat her as her own daughter. Debonair told her that Hikaru would be very happy if she could die with the people she loved, so she should kill them all. That is why Nova "hates" every Hikaru loves...and Hikaru hated herself for killing the Princess, therefore Nova loved Hikaru. Near the end of the series, Nova returns to Hikaru's heart.

She is named after the Chevy Nova.

Nova was created by the anime's director. She was originally one of his characters from a different anime that was never realized and produced.

[edit] Debonair

She pulls the strings in the second season, and awaits the day when Cephiro will crumble due to lack of support. Debonair was, in fact, called into being by the darkness in the hearts of Cephiro's citizens, and as such has tremendous power. She is an anime-only character, and acts as the series major villain (the manga focuses on the battles between Cephiro and the three invading countries of Autozam, Fahren, and Chizeta). She gets her name from the Mitsubishi Debonair.

In Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, she is the Kiishim[u].

[edit] Lantis

Lantis
Lantis

Lantis a powerful Kailu (magic swordsman) and the younger brother of Lord Zagato, who journeyed abroad for a long time and returned to Cephiro after meeting Eagle in Autozam. Lantis returned to get rid of the Pillar system, because of what happened to Zagato and Princess Emaurade. He is regarded with suspicion by the other primary magic-users of Cephiro, largely due to his reclusive nature, but Hikaru approaches him nevertheless, though at first it's because she feels immensely guilty after killing his brother. At heart, he is gentle, although his intimidating manner puts people off; in fact, he forgives Hikaru and the other Knights for Zagato's death. He falls in love with Hikaru during the second season. His name comes from the Mazda Lantis.

Voiced by Juurouta Kosugi, who also voiced Zagato.

[edit] Primera

Primera is a fairy who has acted as Lantis's guardian ever since he saved her from a monster attack. She's very jealous and possessive of Lantis; therefore she harbors a deep dislike for Hikaru, but can still use low-level healing magic when necessary. In the beginning, Mokona likes to tease Primera which makes her dislike Mokona a lot. When Hikaru and Lantis start to get nice with each other, she pops up to stop them, but Mokona with either chase her away or eat her and spit her out later. Named after the Nissan Primera.

Primera makes an appearance in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles in the Hanshin Republic and is later mentioned in the country of Piffle, by Shogo Asagi.

[edit] Sierra

Sierra is Presea's identical twin sister, and the only way you can tell them apart is the feather-shaped birthmark on Sierra's chest (first noted by Caldina when the girls are taking a hot bath together). She makes her appearance in all of season 2. She is pretending to be Presea to take away some pain of the Magic Knights, who blame themselves for not being able to help Presea, and of Ascot, who blames himself for killing Presea. Master Mage Clef tells the Magic Knight that Princess Emeraude made a wish to revive all the people who died in the time she was imprisoned, but really, no one can revive a life once it is lost.

Sierra is in love with Master Mage Clef, as was her sister Presea. She can not make weapons out of Escudo, but she can help revive the weapons once they are lost; she did this to help Hikaru regain her sword after Nova broke it. Sierra only appears in the anime, and is not mentioned or seen at all in the manga.
