Cessna 404

Cessna Model 404 Titan II is a twin engined, propeller driven light aircraft that first flew in 1977. Its U.S. military designation is C-28.

A ten-seater (including the pilot and second officer), the Titan was Cessna's largest twin piston-engined aircraft at the time of its development.

The base model was sold as the Titan Ambassador, and was equipped to be used as a small commuter aircraft, seating eight passengers.

Also available was the Titan Courier, which was designed to be used in either passenger or freight operations, as the seats were easily removed and the floor strengthened.

The Titan Freighter was the pure cargo variant of the Titan series, and was fitted with a strengthened floor, cargo doors, and its walls and ceiling were made from impact-resistant materials to minimize damage in the event of cargo breaking free in-flight.

The Cessna Titan was equipped with two Continental Motors GTSIO-520 turbocharged, fuel-injected engines, each rated at 375 Horsepower. The GTSIO-520 is very similar to the well known TSIO-520, but instead of the prop being connected to the engine via the crankshaft itself, it is connected to a reduction gearbox, which is then connected to the engine. The gearbox housing is the shaft that emerges from the top of the cowling. These six-piston engines each drove a three-blade McCauley propeller.

Cessna started manufacturing the production version of the Model 404 in 1976, and production ceased in 1982. During this time, a total of 378 aircraft were produced.

A refined, pressurized derivative powered by two Garret TPE-331 turboprop engines was developed into the Cessna 441 Conquest II corporate transport aircraft.
