Cercanías
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cercanías (called Rodalies in Barcelona and Valencia) are commuter train networks that cover major metropolitan areas in Spain. Operated by the national rail company RENFE, there are currently eleven Cercanías systems: Asturias, Barcelona (in conjunction with FGC), Bilbao, Cádiz, Madrid, Málaga, Murcia, Santander, San Sebastián, Seville, and Valencia. It's well linked to Metro systems in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao. The network was the target of the 11 March 2004 Madrid train bombings. The attacks killed 192 people in Sta. Eugenia, El Pozo and Atocha stations, being the bloodiest terrorist attack in Europe until the date.
