Carver-Hawkeye Arena is a 15,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Iowa City, Iowa. One of the 10 largest university-owned facilities in the nation, the arena opened in 1983. It is home to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes basketball, volleyball, and wrestling teams, as well as various other events, including trade shows and major concerts. It was named for prominent university booster Roy J. Carver. Prior to opening, Hawkeye athletic teams played at the Iowa Fieldhouse.
The building has hosted the 1994 and 2001 NCAA wrestling championships, as well as gymnastics championships and regionals, and Big Ten gymnastics and wrestling championships. It also hosted the 1984 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials, as well as an exhibition that year against the U.S. Olympic basketball team (featuring current basketball coach Steve Alford).
