Capital High School is a public high school in Olympia, Washington. It is one of three high schools in the Olympia School District.
The Principal of Capital High School is Teresa Poff. Assistant Principals include Michelle Anderson and Larry Walsh. The Dean of Students in Daniel Grimm. The current Associated Student Body President is Taylor Sloane, and the vice president is Rebecca Ellen, Secretary Evan Shelton, and Treasurer Ben Hollingsworth.
Capital High School is a grade 9-12, AAAA National Blue Ribbon award winner. The school year is divided into three 12-week trimesters. Approximately 79% of the graduates enter programs for further study or training. Capital offers a comprehensive curriculum with advanced course work available in every curriculum area.
Additional academic programs include opportunities at New Market Vocational Skill Center, Running Start, School to Work, Pathways, Contract Learning, and the International Baccalaureate Program, which is a rigorous pre-university course of study. Last year, 33 of 37 full IB candidate students earned diplomas. Three quarters of Capital’s students participate in athletics and activities.
Parent and community involvement include the following organizations: Site Advisory Council, Foundation, Patrons, Booster Club, and Parent Organization.
Capital recently completed a $10.5 million dollar remodel project, which included a new student commons, a 400 seat auditorium, an auxiliary gymnasium, fitness room, and modernization of the library, alternative education, administrative offices, and four pod areas. McGranahan Partnership of Tacoma designed the project.

Capital High School is a member of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, in class 3A.
They have a particularly strong Cross Country tradition. Both the boy's and girl's teams have been contenders year after year for the state title.
The girl's swim team is another group who has maintained a strong athletic history. Every year since 2000 these girls have placed in the top five at the state competitions. In 2006, the team was undefeated and League Champions.
The football team remains the focal point of Capital's athletic programs, drawing more fans than all other sports combined. This is due primarily to the fact that the football receives more money each year than the tennis, soccer, and cross country teams combined. The football team's head coach is Barry McKinnon, who was previously defensive coordinator for legend Wayne Sortun. The '05 squad has one of the biggest and strongest offensive lines in Washington State history, with at least one and potentially five D-I players. In 2004 the Cougars went undefeated in the regular season, and advanced to the first round of the State playofs, where they were beaten in the last minutes of the game against Bethel High School. Capital football has won state championships in 1996 and 1998, in the 2A and 3A divisions respectivly. At the 4A level, they reached the semi-finals in 1999 and the finals in 2002.
The baseball program has had a long history of success, with the high points being state championships in 1979 and 1998.
Both the women's fastpitch, and men's golf have also had strong success with a combined 12 state championships between them (6 each.)
The men's tennis squad is very good under the steady hands of Joe Monroe, Tom Alongi and the team co-captains Kevin Lynn and Forrest Rice. Andrew Blackner is sure to shine in the spring as are Kevin Lynn and Jacob Schulte.
Other strong sports include the CHS debate squad, volleyball team, and basketball program.

Capital High School was founded in 1976, to split the district into a two high school system, with approximately half of the elementary and middle schools feeding into Capital High School, and half feeding into William Winlock Miller High School.
The Class of 1984 gave CHS its fight song. The music comes from the University of Houston fight song:

The song is traditional sung by the football team after each contest. A tradition that started in 1992 football season.
