Cambridge Rugby Union Football Club is the Rugby Union club representing the city of Cambridge, England.

After the club's most successful period in their 83 year history and a rapid rise up the leagues with 3 successive promotions from London 2 North in 2003/04 they have now reached National Division 2 for the 2006/07 season. Joining the top 42 clubs in the country cements Cambridges position as the Eastern Counties' leading club.

The Club runs with one of the oldest and most successful mini & youth rugby sections in the country, starting back in the early 1970's. The section runs from U'7s to U'19s.

The section is very successful in the surrounding area resulting in the the older age groups picking up major prizes in the Eastern Counties and National Cups at U'17 and U'19 level.

National U'19 Plate: Winners: 2002 (20-14 Winners over Preston Grasshoppers)

Eastern Counties U'19s Cup: Winners: 1994, 2003, 2004

Eastern Counties U'17s Cup: Winners: 1992, 2002, 2006

In the 2006/07 season the club is reintroducing a Cambridge Colts team to help develop future stars for the National Squad.

Cambridge reached the 2nd Round of the Powergen Cup were they end up with an away trip too National 2 (4 leagues higher) outfit Esher, conceeding their biggest ever defeat 85-0

In a league containing both former giants London Scottish and Richmond, a strong Canterbury team and a Worthing team playing much above expectations Cambridge clinched top spot over Worthing on points difference. In a league were everyone was beating everyone 2 teams, Worthing and Cambride managed to stay consistent with a run of 14 successive wins Cambridge came to a dramatic final Saturday were Worthing's 69-7 demolition of Canterbury was not enough to surpass Cambridge's 96-15 win over Basingstoke.

Cambrdige entertained North Walsham in a 1st round tie at a rained soaked Granchester Road, were the National 3 South rivals ran out 22-6 winners

Retained the cup with a 53-13 win over Norwich, but the Semi final giving Cambridge there first ever win, 11-8 over North Walsham, the Eastern Counties long standing big boys.

In the towns first ever season at National level the club managed an even greater escape than the season before where loosing only 3 matches, but 2 (including the end of the remarkable home record) being to close championship rivals North Walsham who had been seeking promotion for 10 years and once to Havant. North walham lead the table going into the final weekend due to them having picked up 6 more bonus points, leaving them only needing a bonus point win away at Southemd were they had lost on the final day the previous season and Cambridge needing a bonus point win a Reading to stand any chnace of topping the table and if not securing a home play-off. The day was another final day full of drama with Cambridge running out 43-20 winners at Reading to send Reading down, whilst in Southend North Walsham had got their 4 try bonus point but due to 4 missed conversions lost the game 21-20 meaning that Cambridge topped the table by 2 points.

Being National 3 side entering the competition at 3rd round stage and a confusing situation of numbers resulted in the team being placed in the Northern section of the draw meant that a long trip up too Flyde was in store. In a very feisty and spirited performance by the home side, Flyde ran out close winners 13-10

Cambridge retained the cup for the third time in succession with a 33-17 victory over a majority North Walsham 2nd XV at West Renault Park.

After Shelford winning London 2 North raising them to their highest ever posistion in London 1 ran a Cambridge team missing several key players very close, Cambridge coming out of it 17-13 victors.

Cambridge playing in their debut season at the 3rd teir of English Club Rugby for the first time in their history will not just be looking to avoid relegation or consolidate their position in their league but will be looking to push on & once again poise a threat for the title. Eastern Counties Cup and County Cup duties this season will be passed on to the Wanderers (2nd XV)
