Calipatria State Prison

Calipatria State Prison (CSP) is a state prison facility in California, USA. Located in the Imperial Valley of southeastern California, CSP opened in 1992.
The facility confines approximately 4,100 minimum and maximum custody inmates, roughly double its normative capacity. The Hillside Strangler Angelo Buono died there in 2002. Called the lowest prison in the western hemisphere, it lies 184 feet below sea level near the Salton Sea.
