Brighton sewers

Brighton, part of the city of Brighton and Hove in England, United Kingdom, is home to an extensive system of Victorian sewers running under the town.
The company responsible for the sewers, Southern Water, run tours for the public during the summer and Brighton Festival.
The system is connected to a number of outfalls at the popular bathing beach, including emergency storm-water outfalls which were still able to release raw sewage into the 1990s. During that decade, a massive storm water collection drain – wide enough to drive a vehicle through – was constructed along the beach. A trench was dug for construction and pebbles placed on top afterwards, rendering the drain hidden and returning the beach to public use.
