Bond 22 is the working title of a future EON Productions' James Bond film to follow the 2006 film, Casino Royale. It will be the 22nd official film in the James Bond franchise and the second to star Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's British secret agent, James Bond. The film will be produced by Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and will be released worldwide by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer & Columbia Pictures. Originally scheduled for a May 2, 2008 release,[1] it has been pushed back to November 7, 2008 to give the producers more time to complete the film.[2]
Pre-production work on Bond 22 was already under way before filming of Casino Royale began in January 2006, according to an announcement by Michael G. Wilson during a news conference in London on October 14, 2005. The last official word stated that the script was being written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who previously wrote the screenplays for The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, and Casino Royale. [3] However, it is possible they are no longer attached to the project - the most recent reports suggest a new writer is being sought to produce an original script based on an original concept from producer Michael G. Wilson (see "Crew Rumours" below). However, in a November 17, 2006 interview with the BBC it was confirmed that both Neal Purvis and Robert Wade would be working on the 22nd Bond installment. It was also revealed that meetings have begun to discuss the script for the Casino Royale follow up.

[edit] An original story
As Casino Royale is a reboot of the Bond film franchise, the question has been raised on numerous occasions as to whether future installments would be remakes of previously made films, specifically, a remake of Live and Let Die, Fleming's second novel. According to Barbara Broccoli, Bond 22 and Bond films for the foreseeable future will not be remakes. [4] It is, however, possible that Bond 22 may receive an unused Ian Fleming title such as "The Hildebrand Rarity", "The Property of a Lady", "Risico", "Quantum of Solace", or less likely "007 in New York", even though plot elements from the first three stories have been used in previous Bond films.
Broccoli also confirmed that Bond 22 would be a continuation of Casino Royale. Daniel Craig may have hinted at the direction of Bond 22 when he stated that the events of Casino Royale would lead Bond to "go out for revenge." [5] If true, Bond 22 would be the first true 007 sequel (previous films have been linked, such as Dr. No and From Russia With Love or On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever, but this would be the first original sequel).
[edit] Cast
[edit] Cast Rumours
As of November 17, 2006, the only confirmed cast member is Daniel Craig. But rumours from many sources also say that Judi Dench's M will also be appearing. MGM/Sony have not confirmed this.
Other characters possibly returning is Eva Green's character Vesper Lynd, as there are rumours that she may appear in a flashback / video scene. [6] [7]. There is also much speculation, that Jesper Christensen’s Mr. White will appear in this film. In the final scene of Casino Royale, Bond confronts White in a remote location and shoots him non-fatally in the leg. The premise would appear to be set for White to appear in the next film, which the producers have already stated will be a direct follow up to Casino Royale. This ending would nearly mean that White should appear in Bond 22. If he does he would be the first villain to appear in more than one film since Jaws or Blofeld.
There could also be the return of old characters including Q and Moneypenny. John Cleese is the current actor to portray the Quartermaster, but Samantha Bond, who previously played Moneypenny in Die Another Day has said she would not be Moneypenny if Pierce Brosnan wasn't Bond, noting that she shouldn't be older than Bond.
[edit] Crew rumours
A report attributed to the Daily Mail claimed that playwright Tom Stoppard is in talks to join in on writing the script. Stoppard is currently co-writing the script for The Bourne Ultimatum. [8] A July 2006 report by The Hollywood Reporter stated that Bond 22 would be based on an original idea by producer Michael G. Wilson who previously co-scripted every official Bond film between For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Licence to Kill (1989), and that they are looking for a writer to adapt. A report in August 2006 by MI6.co.uk stated that Love Actually screenwriter Richard Curtis is rumoured to be writing Bond 22. [9] This, as well the previous rumours suggest that regular Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been dropped from the project, although these reports contradict the October 2005 press conference where Wilson stated that Bond 22 would be written by Purvis and Wade. It is, however, possible that EON Productions is searching for another screenwriter to polish or do some rewrites, such as what Paul Haggis did with Casino Royale.
Roger Michell, known for directing Notting Hill, was said to be in contract negotiations to direct per both reports by the Daily Mail and The Hollywood Reporter [10], however, Variety reported that negotiations fells through. [11] Michell had previously worked with Daniel Craig on Enduring Love and The Mother.
[edit] Video game adaptation
In May 2006 Activision acquired non-exclusive rights to develop and publish James Bond games; an exclusive deal with Activision takes effect in September 2007. During an earnings report, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision, announced that their first Bond game would be released in May 2008. [12] Previously it was reported by Variety that Activision's first game would be a tie-in to Bond 22. [13] Due to Bond 22's delay, it is likely this game will also be delayed until November of 2008.
