Bill Walsh (born December 20, 1961) is perhaps the United States' best-known newspaper copy editor, largely based on the popularity of his two books about editing, Lapsing into a Comma (ISBN 0-8092-2535-2) and The Elephants of Style (ISBN 0-07-142268-4), and his Web site, The Slot: A Spot for Copy Editors, one of the first online authorities on the craft of copy editing. Walsh is copy chief of the national desk at The Washington Post, where he has worked since 1997. He is a sought-after speaker on copy editing and a regular presenter at annual conferences of the American Copy Editors Society.
