Bernard Caesar Einstein (born 1930) is a physicist, the son of Hans Albert Einstein. He is one of only two grandsons of renowned physicist Albert Einstein. Among Einstein's three children, Lieserl Einstein (assumed to have died in infancy), Hans Albert Einstein, and Eduard Einstein, only Hans married.
Bernhard's mother was Frieda Knecht. His parents were married in 1927 and he was born three years later in 1930. A brother, Klaus, born 1932, died at age 6 due to a diphtheria infection. An adopted sibling, Evelyn, was born in 1941. Their mother died in 1958 and a year later their father Hans remarried, to Elizabeth Roboz, a neurochemist, with whom he had no children. Hans died in 1973 in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Bernard Caesar Einstein is alive as of 2006. He has 5 children. The eldest is Thomas Einstein. Bernard recounted memories of his grandfather to Françoise Wolff, a Belgian documentary maker, in a letter later used as a preface to a 1998 documentary.
