Barry Dancer (born August 27, 1952 in Brisbane, Queensland) is a former field hockey player from Australia, who competed in 48 international matches for Australia between 1973 and 1979. His highlights were winning the silver medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montréal, and bronze at the Hockey World Cup in Buenos Aires, 1978.
Afteer his active career he became a hockey coach. Dancer was appointed Head Coach of The Kookaburras and the Australian Institute of Sport Men's Hockey Unit in 2001. He assumed the role after three years as Head Coach of England's Men's Team. Prior to his appointment in the UK, Dancer had seven years coaching experience with the AIS, including six years as Senior Coach. In his final year, he was appointed AIS Head Coach.
The highlight so far for Dancer as a coach was winning the golden medal with the Men's Team at the 2004 Summer Olympics, at the expense of title holders The Netherlands. The decisive goal (2-1) was scored by Jamie Dwyer in the final. Under the guidance of Dancer Australia also won the 2005 Champions Trophy in Chennai, once again after beating Holland. In 2004 he was inducted in the Queensland Hockey Hall of Fame.
