Barringer High School

Barringer High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school in Newark, in Essex County, New Jersey. The school is operated by the Newark Public Schools.
A new school building, planned by Superintendent of Schools Dr. William N. Barringer, was completed in 1899. The school was renamed in his honor in 1907.

The assertion that Barringer High School is the third oldest public high school in the country is incorrect. While Nathan Hedges opened his doors to students in 1838, Newark's first High School was not chartered until 1855 and Barringer High School was not chartered until 1899.[1]. Baltimore City College (1839) is the nation's third oldest public High School.
