Bardo Pond

Bardo Pond are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1991. The current members are Michael Gibbons (guitar), John Gibbons (guitar), Isobel Sollenberger (flute and vocals), Clint Takeda (bass guitar), Jason Kourkounis (drums), and Aaron Igler (synth/electronics). Bardo Pond's drug-inspired music is often classified as space rock, post-rock, noise or psychedelic rock. Many Bardo Pond album titles have been derived from the names of esoteric psychedelic substances. Their sound has been likened to Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3 and My Bloody Valentine amongst others.

Allmusic describes Bardo Pond as having "lengthy, deliberate sound explorations filled with all the hallmarks of modern-day space rock: droning guitars, thick distortion, feedback, reverb, and washes of white noise." Bardo Pond are a taper-friendly band who encourage fans to make recordings of their shows.

Prairie Dog Flesh Prairie Dog Flesh is an alter ego formation of Bardo Pond featuring mostly Pond members (on a typical night) when it happens. The difference is that Clint sings and the product is more improvisational. They crank out glossolalia songs that they don’t even remember singing. Simply put — it is the lemur brain of Bardo.

Hash Jar Tempo This is the title that has been given to two monumental albums that came out of marathon jam/recording sessions between Bardo and Roy Montgomery. Both were recorded during some of Roy’s infrequent trips to the U.S. and the product is quite impressive. Two albums represent these sessions — Well Oiled chronicles the March 1995 recording session and Under Glass represents what happened on one fateful night in April of 1998. Drunken Fish has released both of these excellent CDs. While there are no current plans for an additional recording session, if and when Roy returns to the states, don’t be surprised to see a third album result.

Third Troll This is the music you’re looking for when you want to seriously space out. Michael and John Gibbons assault your ears with guitars and feedback. Kevin Moist gives you a workout with the saxophone. Isobel Sollenberger slaps you around with the flute. Aaron Igler jams on the synth. They rarely play live, but have been known to in the past.

In October 2000, Bardo Pond self-released the first volume in a highly limited series of CD-R jam sessions. The tracks in the Volume series are generally more improvisational and experimental than Bardo Pond's studio work.
