Can somebody please provide references for this article? And the status of the concept in the science of psychology. Is there any empirical research that supports the existence of autosuggestion? To me it sounds like pseudo science.Andries 09:03, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Suggestion, suggestibility, and hypnosis have been studied quite a bit in mainstream psychology and medicine. A quick check through an EBSCO aggregation found several psychological and medical journals discussing autosuggestion. An couple of examples pulled at random are Yankauer, "The therapeutic mantra of Emile Coue," 42(4) Perspectives in Biology & Medicine 489 (Summer 1999); Faber, "Suggestion: Metaphor and meaning," 32(1) Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences 16 (Jan. 1996).
I don't think we should hastily assign the label "pseudoscience." But I'm not entirely comfortable with using what strikes me as a casual term ("subconscious mind") without some elucidation and critique of the psychological theory that underlies this term.
Techniques of autosuggestion are demonstrably quite useful, from a practical point of view. Some practitioners believe that hypnosis is essentially guided autosuggestion.

About "pseudoscience", Its not because a phenomena or a theories is not proved by science that is not valuable to put in a encyclopaedia especially a free encyclopaedia. Ours science is tool verry young in the hand of humanity much younger than autosuggestion.
I’m using Autosuggestion since 2 years and it works very well. I use repetitive positive suggestion to reprogram my conceptual reality model. Some of the things you learn very young when your mind is self creating is conceptual reality model are bad for you or what you what to be or what you want your reality to be. But they are part of the structure of your mind. With a 30 minutes of intense autosuggestion, with emotion and 2 hours of just listening suggestion per day, I get tremendous result in 6 month. Otherwise that could take me my entire life make the change. Your mind is like a sponge. Its probably why company put large amount of money in publicity. Publicity is a form of suggestion.

redirecting from self hypnosis makes the entirething a factual error. Typical wikipedia problem; non-experts thinking to merge things who don't realize why theres a difference.

[edit] Suspected nonsense
There's a new article, Autohypnosis, that says it's commonly confused with autosuggestion. I can't tell if it's nonsense, a synonym, or genuinely a separate practice. It was created by Professor F. Baum, in his first contrib.--Kchase02 T 03:29, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
