Austin Film Festival

The Austin Film Festival was started in 1994 in Austin, Texas and is the first organization of its kind to focus on the writer’s unique creative contribution to the film and television industries. It has a number of events and services for emerging and professional writers and filmmakers. Past participants include Robert Altman, Wes Anderson, James L. Brooks, Russell Crowe, Barry Levinson, Darren Star, Robert Duvall, Buck Henry, Dennis Hopper, Lawrence Kasdan, John Landis, Garry Shandling, Bryan Singer, Oliver Stone, Sandra Bullock, Harold Ramis and Owen Wilson.
It is dedicated to furthering the art, craft and business of writers and filmmakers and recognizing their contributions to film, television and new media. The AFF supports the work of aspiring and established writers and filmmakers by providing unique cultural events and services, enhancing public awareness and participation, and encouraging dynamic and long-lasting community partnerships.
The Austin Film Festival is known for the unbelivable access they provide to filmmakers and industry professionals.
The 13th Annual Film Festival will take place from Oct 19-26, 2006 in Austin, Texas. The AFF will present Shane Black with the Distinguished Screenwriter Award, David Milch with the Outstanding Television Writer Award, and recognize Sydney Pollack for Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking.
On October 22, 2006, the U.S. premiere of the contraversial film "Death of a President" took place at the festival.
