Archbald is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,220 at the 2000 census.

Archbald is located at (41.493481, -75.551478)GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 43.6 km² (16.8 mi²). 43.6 km² (16.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.12%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 6,220 people, 2,470 households, and 1,756 families residing in the borough. The population density was 142.8/km² (369.9/mi²). There were 2,594 housing units at an average density of 59.5/km² (154.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.65% White, 0.27% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.02% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.40% of the population.
There were 2,470 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.7% were married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, 28.9% were non-families. . 25.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the borough the population was spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.5 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $39,428, and the median income for a family was $52,410. Males had a median income of $36,913 versus $26,343 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,352. About 3.8% of families and 6.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 11.3% of those age 65 or over.
Archbald is also home of Valley View High School, part of the Valley View school district. The district also comprises the neighboring boroughs of Blakely and Jessup, an area of approximately 51 square miles; 18,437 people reside within its boundaries of which 2,575 are Valley View students. In 1992, the Valley View Cougars were the state class AA football champions.

[edit] Archbald Pothole State Park
Archbald Pothole State Park is a 150-acre park in northeastern Pennsylvania. The park is named for Archbald Pothole, a geologic feature that formed during the Wisconsin Glacial Period, around 15,000 years ago. The pothole is 38 feet deep and has an elliptical shape. The diameter of the pothole decreases downward. The largest diameter is 42 feet by 24 feet. At the bottom it is 17 feet by 14 feet. The pothole has a volume of about 18,600 cubic feet, therefore it could hold approximately 140,000 gallons.
