Ali Pacha
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ali Pacha (also Ali Pasha) (turkish: "Kaptan-ı Derya Ali Paşa"), was an Ottoman admiral. He was commander-in-chief of the Ottoman naval forces at the Third Battle of Lepanto (1571). His ship was boarded during the battle, and although there was an order for him to captured alive, he was beheaded and his head was then displayed upon a pike. This led to a collapse in Turkish morale, greatly contributing to their rout in the battle.
