Aldershot Town Football Club, based in Aldershot, Hampshire, was founded in the spring of 1992 just after the closure of debt-ridden fourth division club Aldershot F.C., who had been founded in 1926 and had been league members since 1932.

[edit] History
Aldershot Town was formed in 1992 after the bankruptcy of the former Football League club Aldershot, and was elected to the Isthmian League Third Division for the 1992-93 season. Promotion was achieved in the first two seasons of the club's existence, and a promotion hat-trick was only missed out in 1995 by inferior goal difference. Promotion was achieved as First Division champions in 1998 and five years later the club reached the Conference.
In 2004-05, the 'Shots' reached the Conference playoff Semi-final but lost to Carlisle United on penalties, so their dream of a return to the Football League was crushed - at least for the while.
[edit] Club records
- Best league position: 4th in Conference National (level 5), 2004-05
- Best FA Cup performance: 2nd round, 1999-2000, 2003-04, 2004-05, 2005-06
- Best FA Trophy performance: Semi-Final, 2003-04
- Best FA Vase performance: Quarter Final, 1993-94
[edit] Rivals
Aldershot Town's main rivals are considered currently to be Woking and Farnborough Town. Reading were former rivals of the old team, Aldershot, but have never played the new side in a competitive fixture, and with Reading now playing in the Premier League, any rivalry is not really reciprocated.
[edit] Notable players
Jason Chewins holds the record for most number of appearances for the club (488). The left-back played for Aldershot Town between 1994 and 2004. He received a testimonial, against Portsmouth, which coincidentally was his last game for the Shots.
Mark Butler scored 155 goals in 303 games for Aldershot Town, between 1992 and 1998.
Gary Abbott is, apart from Butler, the only Shots player to have ever scored over 100 goals for the club. Over the course of three seasons he scored 120 goals before departing in the summer of 2001.
Roscoe Dsane was meant to be the heir to his throne - especially when he scored over 20 goals in his debut Conference season. However, a succession of knee injuries curtailed his Shots career after they went full-time, and he can now be found at AFC Wimbledon.
