Albel Nox

Albel Nox is a character in Square Enix's role playing game Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Albel is the leader of the Black Brigade, the infantry branch of his country's (Airyglyph's) army.

A master of the katana, the people of Elicoor II compare Albel's strength to that of Duke Vox, Airyglyph's champion and captain of the Dragon Brigade. His tactic is to take no prisoners and leave no survivors. This lack of mercy is what has given him his famous nickname "Albel the Wicked." Despite his immense skills on the battlefield, he remains empty as a person. Albel is a very independent character, choosing his own path. He speaks very little, and that which he says is often derogatory or threatening in nature, and he often refers to others as "maggots", "worms" or "fools".

Albel is first encountered in the Kirlsa Training Facility. He first toys with the party before deciding to let them go without a fight. He is next in the Bequerel Mountain Path, where he fights you for the first time. After he is defeated, the party decides to spare his life and leave him in the road. The characters' next encounter is also when Albel joins the party as a representative of Airyglyph in the taming of The Marquis, the King of Dragons. Through a special event, Fayt will befriend Albel, and he will be available for the entire game.

- His left arm was lost as a result of a failed attempt to make a partnership with a dragon as per the custom of his nation. The ceremony is called the 'Accession of the Flame Ceremony' His father saved him from death, but at the cost of his father's life. Albel is very self-loathing, and thinks that he did not deserve to be saved. Because of his fear that someone will save him again, he tends to keep others at an arm's length, so he won't get hurt again.
- His first name "Albel" is often changed to "Aruberu" due to the Japanese pronuciation. An arbalest was a medieval weapon that fired projectiles.
- Keeping in line with the games religious naming, Albel is very similar to Abel, it is speculated that it was originally going to be Abel. His last name "Nox" is the Latin term for 'Night'.
