"Ain't No Sunshine" is a song by Bill Withers from his 1971 album Just As I Am. It is 280th on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
- It was used in the hit film Notting Hill.
- Featured in the popular TV series Monk, where a drunken Capt. Leland Stottlemeyer sings a karaoke version. (Season 3 Episode 14 - Mr. Monk Goes To Vegas)
"Ain't No Sunshine" has been covered by many artists including Bob Marley, Ben Harper, Lighthouse Family (Although not in the movie, it is included on the Notting Hill Soundtrack), Van Morrison, Sting, James Taylor, an obscure cover by Michael Jackson, Will Young (as the B-side to "Light My Fire"), Chenoa, Joe Cocker, Otis Redding and Woven Hand among others. The latest cover is by Aaron Neville from the album Bring It on Home... The Soul Classics(September 19, 2006). At Last performed the song on America's Got Talent.
Although it shares the same name and many lyrics in the hook, the DMX version is more "inspired by" than a true cover like the artist rendentions listed above.
The version by Lighthouse Family is often listed incorrectly as a version by D'Angelo, who has no officially recorded version of the song.
