A Survivor from Warsaw

A Survivor from Warsaw, Op. 46 is a work for narrator, men's chorus, and orchestra written by the Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg in 1947. It was first performed on November 4, 1948 in Albuquerque by the Albuquerque Civic Symphony Orchestra, directed by Kurt Frederick, with Sherman Smith narrating. The work lasts a little more than 6 minutes.
The narration depicts the story of a survivor from Warsaw's ghetto during the second world war. A group of Jews, about to be deported to a death camp, burst into singing the prayer Shema Yisroel (sung by the chorus).
