2001: A Space Travesty
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2001: A Space Travesty is a 2000 film starring actor Leslie Nielsen. It is a parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is rated R due to its crude sexual humor and is 99 minutes long. The movie has been featured in IMDB's bottom 100 list. The movie also has a resemblance to the Pink Panther movies, with the Clouseau-like (but American) Detective Dix.
[edit] Summary
In this film, then-President Bill Clinton is cloned by Dr.Griffin Pratt played by Peter Egan. Clinton's clone is an incompetent hack who is placed in the Oval Office. Meanwhile, the real President is kidnapped and taken into outer space. It is the job of detective Richard "Dick" Dix, played by Nielsen, to find the President and return him safely to earth. He teams up with female detective Cassandra Menage played by Ophelie Winter. In the process, Dix encounters setbacks and as typical with most Nielsen movies, much silly humor occurs. For example, when the president's identity is in question, Dix partially disrobes the President to prove that the real Clinton bears a birthmark on his buttocks. The climax of the plot line occurs at the opera in Paris where In the Navy is sung by three tenors (who resemble, but are not the famous Three Tenors: Luciano Pavarotti, Josep Carreras and Plácido Domingo). Other major roles are played Ezio Greggio and Damien Masson.
