Close To The Edge é o quinto álbum da banda britânica de rock progressivo Yes. Talvez sua grande obra-prima. O álbum também marca a saída do baterista Bill Bruford O disco foi lançado em 1972 com a seguinte formação:

O disco se divide em 3 músicas, sendo que as duas primeiras se dividem em quatro partes, numa clara referência às sinfonias da música clássica:

1. Close to the edge
O disco inicia transportando o ouvinte a um cenário natural e intenso, onde tudo que se enxerga é o verde. Logo em seguida arpejos de teclado elevam essa atmosfera ate um momento insuportavel onde uma explosao musical acontece inevitavelmente. O caos acontece. Os instrumentos parecem brigar entre si, mas ao mesmo tempo, de uma forma totalmente harmonica (em um sentido mais obscuro). Os vocais de Anderson tentam intervir ate que a paz é restaurada (por pouco tempo). A letra então começa, em um ritmo simplesmente empolgante e confuso. Levemente inspirada no Livro Sidarta, de Hermann Hesse, a letra fala da busca pela plenitude espiritual, e do alcance de estados em que a mente humana encontra-se absolutamente completa e plena. Além disso, ao fazer a letra, Jon Anderson se preocupou muito com a sonoridade das palavras, às vezes mais do que com seu significado, gerando versos de absoluta beleza como "A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate men so it seems", que podem ser interpretados das mais diversas formas, inclusive como um monte de palavras sem significado, que é como muitos críticos vêem as letras do grupo. II. Total Mass Retain Anderson/Squire
My eyes convinced, eclipsed with the younger moon attained with love. It changed as almost strained amidst clear manna from above. I crucified my hate and held the word within my hand. There's you, the time, the logic, or the reasons we don't understand.

IV. Seasons Of Man Anderson/Howe
The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes. A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate man, so it seems. And space between the focus shape ascend knowledge of love. As song and chance develop time, lost social temp'rance rules above. Ah, ah.
Then according to the man who showed his outstretched arm to space, He turned around and pointed, revealing all the human race. I shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place.
