The Police adalah sebuah kelompok musik new wave dari Britania Raya yang dipengaruhi oleh reggae. Mereka menjadi terkenal di awal 1980-an ketika musik punk rock sedang berjaya.
Kelompok ini didirikan oleh drummer dari Amerika Serikat Stewart Copeland pada awal 1977. Setelah kelompok rock progresif Curved Air bubar, Copeland ingin memulai band baru dan pindah ke London. Singer-bassist Sting dan gitaris Henry Padovani bergabung dan merekam single pertama Fallout/Nothing Achieving. Mereka kemudian tur dan mendukung Cherry Vanilla dan Wayne County & the Electric Chairs. Padovani kemudian digantikan oleh Andy Summers.
