From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Zodiak Free Arts Lab was a music club, found in West-Berlin in de late 60s by Conrad Schnitzler, Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Boris Schaak. The group was based in a large backroom of the Schaubuhbne, a bar and theartre. The place allowed musicians to experiment with free jazz, psychedelic rock and avant-garde. In the Zodiak Schnitzler and Roedelius met Dieter Moebius, and formed Kluster. Various other artists and bands passed through the club in their early days, e.g. Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream. The club played an important role in the development of a style that would later be called krautrock.
