Transit Valley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Transit Valley is a country club in Western New York that was involved in an incident in 1993 where membership was denied to NHL player Grant Fuhr. It was believed that he had been denied membership to the club due to his race.
The Buffalo News reported on May 30, 1993:
Transit Valley does an about-face on Sabres' Fuhr golf club. It offers goalie a membership and an apology.
Officials of the Transit Valley Country Club, denying they rejected Grant Fuhr for membership because of his race, reversed themselves Saturday and offered a membership -- and an apology -- to the Buffalo Sabres goaltender. Club officials said their earlier snub of Fuhr, who is black, was based on "incorrect and incomplete" information on his application. They refused to say what that was.
